Even though AMD is more expensive, it's really worth it. Thicker metal with crisper lines. If you're going through the work to replace the area, it's best to start with good stuff. Summit also sells AMD, and has good prices.
The guy that was actually reproducing them lives in Wenatchee, Washington. He had them on Moparts and eBay. I'm not sure if he has any left.
I'm pretty sure this is him. You may send him a message.

Ah, I didn't mention that I have the hinge off. I clamped it in my vise last night, and started to pull it around, but I didn't feel very safe. I'm by no means light, and I don't know if I was going to weigh enough to move the coil far enough to slide over that pin.
I have a hood hinge that has a sping that is no longer hooked on the peg, so there is no "springiness" to the hinge anymore. Has anyone experienced this, and have a sweet trick for twisting the spring back around and hooking it on the peg without losing an eye?
Thanks.
I forgot to take pictures last night, so I snapped a couple on the way out this morning. The metal clips are stock, the plastic ones are aftermarket. The main thing is to not grab way out away from the clip and pull too hard. it will crack the board. you wanrt the pressure to come from right...
I can take some pictures of the back side of the door panel, the clips and the door without the panel later today when I get home. Bug me if you don't hear from me.
You are more likely to break the panel than the clips. It's just pressboard.
I would imagine that if a heat gun would work, boiling water would probably have a similar effect. It would deliver heat to the stripe without allowing it to get above ~212 degrees. Probably safer for the paint for a klutz.
In either case, I can see myself getting burned. That's how I roll.
I don't have a pot large enough to dip the whole car into boiling water. I can't imagine how much wood it would take to get that much water boiling, too.
I'm about to acquire a car that someone put the stripes on incorrectly. Is there a good way to remove the stripes without damaging the paint?
Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Yeah, turn the key and give the lid a whack. Pretend you're the Fonz, and when it pops open, hold your thumbs up and say "aaaaayyyyyyyyy".
If that doesn't work, call you car a nerd and climb through the back seat opening, like others have said.
If the Canadian postal tracking system is like USPS, it won't show up in their system for days, sometimes not even until after it's delivered. And then if it's crossing the border, expect it to take a while.
Hey, Gary. What's the shelf life of one of your stripes? I bought one a couple of years ago, and never even opened the box. It's been inside the house. I live in a pretty dry climate.
Thanks.
