Wheel/tire combo for '73 Dodge Dart sport

Put 15 x 7 (4¼" BS) Magnum 500s on the /6 mordor. Tires are 205/60-15s. No problems with clearance. This car has disks which widens out the front track about 1½". Car rode & drove nice. You didn't say if your car had drum brakes (SBP) or disk brakes (LBP). Makes a huge difference in terms...

    quick tire question

Not a dumb question at all. Will it fit? Yes. My 66 Dart GT came from the previous owner with a set of 205/70-14 bias-belted tires all around on 4½" wide 14 inch rims. This combination was replaced by 195/70-14 tires on 5½" wide rims. Will it work? Keeping the car off the ground, yes. As...

    quick tire question

Not quite correct. It only looks fatter because it is shorter. Because 225 is the max cross section width, 225 tires of the same design by the same manufacturer will be the same width when fitted to the same width of rim. RRR is correct about the /60 being shorter than the /70, but not fatter...

    Tire size for a 1974 valiant/dart

My 2¢ FWIW: I'm running 235/60-15s on cop car wheels all around. If I had front drum brakes I'd have no problems up front. As it is with BBP DB the tires rub inside the fender under SHARP, bumpy corners. I'm planning on going to 225/60 when it comes time to replace.

What size tires will fit on stock dart 15" wheels?

Depends on front wheel hubs (disc or drum brakes?). If you're running KH disk brakes, the front tread could be wider. The front track on a BBP A-body is wider with factory disks than with drum brakes. I converted both the 72 Demon and 73 Mordor to factory BBP DBs and installed 15 inch...

    Another No-Mod Tire Fitment Question

Many moons ago, I asked Stockton Wheel the "How big?" question regarding my 72 Demon. The fellow I spoke to said 235/60-15. So I went with that. The wheels are stock cop car, 15 x 7, 4¼ backspacing. The car has a 75 sub-frame and a re-purposed Mopar BBP disk brake system. This adds about 1½...

    68 barracuda tire size question

BFG, Michelin, and Goodyear do not support a 215/75-14 tire on their websites, so I do not have their data available. What I found was that a 215/70-14 tire is the widest T/A radial that they recommend for a 5½" wide rim. They recommend a minimum of a 6" rim for a 225/70-14. Will a 225/70...

Rims should be a 5 bolt pattern, 4" on center. I've seen the kind of notation you're referring to regarding Goodyear Marathon tires and a few others. The best help I can give is to point you to Tire Rack. They show a Kumho Solus KR21 in a 185/70R-13 for $62 each plus the ride and installation...

Need 15" BFG size options for Dads 67 cuda

I'm running a 205/60-15 on a 7" wide 4¼" offset on my 73 Dart. No problems under any circumstances. Check camber on the wheel that's wearing strangely. A-body Mopars have a tendency to drag the inside front wheel when turning sharp and going quickly. This can cause the wear pattern you...

Need new tires but too many choices ......

I have KR21s (225/45-17) on my 2014 Dart. Popped two of them on pot holes within the first three months I owned the car. Now I drive on city streets treating pot holes like a running back treats would be tacklers. They are quiet, but don't grip especially well. Besides the tire choices...

    tire size

Limited by rim width, too. BFGs specs say nothing bigger than 225/70-14 to be fitted on a 14x6 wheel. I would not advise any one to use a shackle kit on a Mopar. It'll settle like a fresh filled in grave and make the car plow like a Clydesdale. Can you say asymmetric rear springs? Why sure...

    Stock wheel off set

The Dart came with 4½" wide wheels. The best you can get on these and get decent wear is 185/70-14. The Dart Sport 340 came with 5½" wide wheels. IIRC the backspace on these wheels is 4¼". The biggest tire recommended for a 14x5½ is a 215/70-14. A 15x7 wheel with 4¼" offset works well up...

Front Tire Size on a Demon?

IIRC, an LBP disk brake adds 1½" to the front track. I have a 72 LBP disk brake Demon that has 235/60-15 on 15x7 wheels with 4¼" offset. These tires barely clear, but in all honesty, I have the ride height set at the low level of "acceptable" tolerance. The 73 has same wheel specs with...

    Front wheel tire size Q

I'd recommend nothing smaller than a 195/60-14. It will safely fit a 7" wide rim and have enough load capacity to handle most driving situations. Anything smaller in the /60 profile would be too small for the rim you're planning on using.

Wide Fronts on a 68 Dart

A lot is going to depend on what brake set-up you have on the car as far as the front end is concerned. A factory disk brake set up will widen the front track. This is true if the KH 4" bolt pattern or the Bendix 4½" bolt pattern hub is used. I have a 72 Demon with a 75 K-member, BBP disk...

    Tires for 14x4.5 wheels?

In terms of load carrying ability, this sounds right. The D78 is the follow-on to a 6.95. By cross-section width, the closest tire would be a 175/75-14 in a radial. Usually a tire without a sidewall ratio, in actuality runs about 82. Since the sidewall ratio relates section width to...

    Tires for 14x4.5 wheels?

185-14 is good. 175-14 will work, but may not have enough strength to carry the weight of the car in spirited driving.

1972 Demon - tire and wheel question

The original wheels and tires in a 72 Demon 340 were E70-14 mounted on 5½x14 rims with a 4¼ back space, 4" bolt circle diameter. When components get switched around, it's tough to say what is on the car now. IMO, the reason to tub the rear wheel wells is to run slicks. A stock, straight 72...

Front Rubbing - Tires, Suspension or Wheels?

IIRC going from the SBP drum to BBP disk brake on the front adds 1½" to the track. I have 235/60-15s on 15 x7 (4¼ BS) on the Demon all around. Up front, they rub on jounce on the inside of the fender while turning. Going straight there is no problem. Next time I buy tires, I'll try...

    Upgrading to 15" wheels/tires

If you have a BBP disk brake set-up from a 73 & > A-body, the 15x7 wheel with a 255/60-15 tire won't work. The front fender will rub on the tread of the tire. Using wheels with a 4¼" offset, IMO, the tire was too close to the springs in the back (~¼" clearance). The axle was a stock 7¼. A...

    340 formula s wheels ?

Not really sure. There are two different wheel centers. One is for drum brakes, the other for disk brakes. The disk brake wheel center is distinguished by the flat rings that run inside and outside of the bolt holes when viewed from the rear. This was done to make the wheel bolt up more...

Q: Does Duster have disk or drum brakes? Reason for asking is that if the car is a drum brake car or was converted to KH disk brakes from a 72 or earlier, the bolt pattern will be 4" (101.6 mm). If, on the other hand, it was a factory disk brake car, the bolt pattern will be 4½" (114.3 mm)...
