Since the rearend cover is leaking like you stated it is probably an 81/4 rear which should be good enough for the street. The 8 3/4 has no rear cover, it is solid and round and the center chunk is removed through the front!

stroker small blocks are nice but expensive for us on a budget to build, especially when we already have the motor. But the big blocks does sound like it doesn't take much to get them in the 10's

blue missile how is the breakdown of viscosity with the Canola oil 10W50. If all goes well and it is as good or better than synthetic hopefully it will be less expensive alternative. You will have to keep us up to date on it's testing and production.

Congrats on the great deal. If you manage to find a 340 here for sale (it would be very rare) it is usually 4 grand or over, or it is a boat anchor due to the hole in the block. I had almost gave up on finding one when I saw a 340 stock bore with the X heads ( needs to be built for 1500 4 hourse...
