360 tuning- stumbling issue... Need tuning advice

So, long story short, I bumped the timing up another 10* advanced and lowered the curb idle to give me a neutral idle of 850.Re tuned my air/fuel screws with the vacuum guage and now pull a steady 11.All hesitation and stumbling are gone.

360 tuning- stumbling issue... Need tuning advice

Yes I have. It seems low to me as well. I'll continue to tweak, but I am starting to think I may have a leak.

360 tuning- stumbling issue... Need tuning advice

Ok I adjusted the accelerator pump linkage and from start the bog is gone. It's a vacuum advance... Not sure about curve or how to map it. Carb has vacuum secondaries. Is it worth picking up a smaller power valve? They are only $8 and are pretty straight forward to swap. I checked my plugs and...

360 tuning- stumbling issue... Need tuning advice

I just finished the rebuild on my la360 with a mild mp perf cam. Everything idles well currently at 800 rpm neutral idle at 20* advanced on a factory set Pertronix flame thrower II ready to run dizzy.I'm running into two issues: 1) From a stop, if I heavy foot the throttle it falls on its face...

    Cam shaft 101

Sweet. So no work to valves, springs, etc? Just drop it in and go?

    Cam shaft 101

70 dart, 3.23 gear, 904 trans, stock converter, not sure about heads; it's a 1977 engine.

    Cam shaft 101

Guys, I'm doing a mild 360 build on a budget so the specs will all be pretty OEM but I'd like to put in a mild cam. What lift and duration would be best suited with stock length push rods, valves, and lifters? 77 la block and heads. I run a weiand intake and 650 4 bbl carb. Thanks Clark

    360 parts interchangeability.

Everything I've read says the 360 was an la until 93; the 318 was a magnum in 92. I have it partially tore down and everything looks La to me so far.I agree about the newer heads but the po took them off and put them on his 318. I can't complain I got this for free. Ill tear down the 77 engine...

    360 parts interchangeability.

Guys I have two la 360 blocks; one is a complete 1977 and the other a 1992 minus heads and intake. I see that the 92 has roller lifters; aside from the lifter difference, is there anything else that may be different that would effect part interchangeability? I'd like to run the 77 heads on the...

I can spare the $8 :) thanks a lot everyone!

    New jets needed?

Ok, I richened the air/fuel adjustments, backed off the curb idle, and bumped the timing to 10* advanced. Its a lot better off of the line. Rick, I already ordered a 9.5 and a 10.5 power valve from Summit.... at this point would I have anything to gain by swapping one in for the 6.5 or should I...

    New jets needed?

took nearly 1/16" of play out of the accelerator pump arm adjustment... hopefully it corrects the issue but I didn't have time to drive it today to check (stupid job got in the way!). It now has a snug .015" gap as per the video. Thanks again!

    New jets needed?

It is a vac sec carb. Just out of curiosity )and a lack of being able to link it together in my brain) how did changing the spring affect the hestitation at take off with the primaries?

    New jets needed?

I have it pushed back as far as it will go at WOT with very little movement. My linkage runs apparell with the valve cover after a bend was needed in the arm. I can't get it to down shift under hard acceleration either. I might have to play with it to get it right. As far as the accellerator...

    New jets needed?

Oh if it makes a difference.... I'm running the stock LA 318 heads with a stock cam. timing is about 5* advanced... vacuum reads 20 on the dial.

    New jets needed?

Just finished installing my new Summit 600 CFM carb with electric choke and Weiand Action Plus 4 BBL intake. All is fine at idle and mid to high RPM but I am getting a hesitation at take off. So far I've adjusted the air/fuel mix and have maxed my vacuum at idle and have adjusted my curb idle...

    Kick down linkage help

Ok I have it set equally (+/- 1/8") and it sits in the middle of the oval with no spring. I see in your pics you ran the spring off of the throttle pin but what didIt hook to on the linkage? I should have taken a picture before ripping it apart I suppose. :) thanks for your help so far, it's...

    Kick down linkage help

So, at WOT the linkage should push down 1/8 to 1/4" at the rear? Will the spring just keep the linkage "floating" when at curb idle?

    Kick down linkage help

Just put my new 4 bbl intake and carb on and I need some help with the kick down linkage on my 904. Should this be all the way forward, half way, or all the way back on the stud? Meaning, the slot on the arm of the linkage. Thanks, Clark

    Starter staying engaged?

Flywheel looked good when I checked it out during the tear down two months ago. Its a 318 with a NAPA brand stock replacement. The inspection plate is on. I am leaning towards a bad starter. Relay is also new.

    Starter staying engaged?

Hey guys, I put a new starter on about 2 weeks ago and starting this week when I start my dart, I get a horrible whizzing sound for about 20-30 seconds before it goes away. I sounds as though its coming from my starter area. :wack: What is the likely hood my starter is staying engaged? Also...

    Fresh Rebuild; not starting

Thats good to know. I didn't put a new cam in. I did notice as soon as it fired that the timing was spot on and the only hang up I have right now is what that banging noise might have been. It came from the passenger side rear of the motor and it sounded like it was underneathe it. Hard to...

    Fresh Rebuild; not starting

I'm also going to try to burp the system to see if I have an air pocket in there. My real concern is I had some lower end chatter at start up... it almost sounded like a flywheel bolt banging on something as it rotated. Anyways, I jacked the front end up to look under it just to make sure I...

    Fresh Rebuild; not starting

Got it to fire. Had to move all the plug wire one spot counter clockwise on the cap. Now my only issue seems to be a cooling issue.... my upper radiator hose gets super hot and the lower is cold. Does that sound like a thermostat not opening up or my pump isn't pumping?

    Fresh Rebuild; not starting

Alrighty, I just put it all back in. The timing is set at top dead center with the ditributor rotor set at plug 1. I have spark and fuel. She'll turn over but she won't fire. Anything anyone can think of I might be overlooking?

    opinion: 2 bbl vs 4bbl : stock 318

thanks everyone! I think I am going to run what stock and make the decision down the road. I am staying with the stock cam. The car is 63K original miles so I basically pulled everything apart inpsected it and reassembled with new seals. Trying to keep the mods bolt on so they can later be...
