    Parts still available!!!!!

I have a Black and Decker leaf blower/vac. It has to be a least 15 -18 years old. The vac housing has worn thru in spots several times over the years. Each time I have patched it and got a couple more years out of it. Last week a new hole appeared. Too many bad spots too many places. I...

    Butane Torch THANKS!!

Jimmy-James: I don't have an oxy/acet rig. Even if I did I likely wouldn't have thought of it. Bodyperson and Toolmanmike: Had never heard of the brand. Based on your advice, I got one. Before I even filled it I could tell it was well made. I have a few tools that were my Great Uncles and are...

    Butane Torch- want advice

I have started working on a brass Locomotive kit I have had for LOTS of years. I am thinking of getting one of the small butane torches for soldering. Any advice would help a lot. Kit is in 1/4" = 1 Ft. so some parts are very small. Old Weller soldering gun is OK for some of it. Would like...

    Drill bit set on sale.

Homedepot has a Roybi 35 piece drill bit set on sale for $4.88. It goes from 1/18 to 1/4". With 35 pieces it means there are several dups. For me this is a good thing. The little ones seem to get lost or broken. Haven't used them yet. One thing I don't like, the case isn't marked with the...

    tool box/chest

I've got one Craftsman bottom and two of their top boxes. One top and the bottom I brought new in the mid 60's. The other top is the same age or older. It belonged to a guy I worked for. I got it after he passed away. I used mine for about 10 years every day at work. The other one was at...

    Neat lift for low ceilings

Guys, PLEASE be very careful with above ground hoists!! All Mfg. have some kind of spec for the concrete. These will include thickness, strength, location of seams and or cracks, and lots more. If you are not willing to bet your car and or your life on the garage floor, think twice. Part of...

    Help me choose

A couple of things that I want to offer. PLEASE check the duty cycle for the unit. No matter the size of the tank, you don't want the motor and pump running too long at a time. If at all possible get a cast iron pump or at least iron cylinders. Check the speed of the motor. If I remember...

Air Leak in Air Compressor Tank

It sure looks like the ends failed neatly along the welds. Makes one wonder about the welds.

    spark plug cleaner...?

Used a free standing unit on cars and airplanes from the mid 60's to the late 70's. It also had a tester as part of it. As has been said, got to clean all the grit out. Never had any trouble even with the plugs on A-26 Invaders.

    Vise on drum

Weld a piece of good sized (3"-4") square tubing to the wheel. Weld a plate to the tube top for the vise. Fill the wheel with concrete. When the concrete is at least a week old, give the whole thing a good coat of paint. You could also get a big brake drum of a recycling center.

    OLD socket set!!

I got this from my dad when he died in 1963. He did not do any mechanical type work. I think he may have got the set from his uncle. My great uncle was an engineer on Great Lakes ore ships. This set could be from the early 1900's. Do have more sockets, just wanted you all to see the 1/2" hex...

    Car lift

Just a couple of things for safe installation. The mfg. have specs for the concrete mix, thickness, and spacing of bolts holes from seams or cracks. Look these up and follow them. They are great to have, but make sure it will be safe this year and in a few more.

    Tap and die set

I have the Craftsman set I brought in the mid 60's. Never broke anything or had any trouble. Also learned the right way to use them while in aircraft mechanics school. Still have a lot of tool from that time frame. Even have a couple of Power-craft tools. Anyone remember those? Mike

    Socket wrenches

The very first set of tools I had were Powercraft, that's right, Wards. Had the same warranty as Sears and were cheaper. Also there was a Wards store two blocks from where I lived. Still have a few of those and several from Sears I got in the mid and late 60s. Also still have a S-K comb...

    How strong is your ratchet?

A friend gave me a copy of Hot Rod from Oct. 2013. a couple of days ago. They tested 11 ratchet-handles. The test was only to see how much it took to break them. 10 of them were new and in the $20-25 range. One was a old Craftsman for a yard sale. The half inch drive was held in a fixture...

    Need your advice and input

There has been a couple of places like this in the Denver area over the years. None of them seem to last very long. Overhead has too high for the rates people would pay. Might work some where else, but you could your investment.

    MaxJax... Any reviews

A couple of things in the clip bother my. I use to sell and install above ground hoists. In the video there was some kind of "nut" in the floor. You noticed he only had bolts and washers to secure the columns. Most hoists use Red Head type expanding sleeve anchor bolts. Check the...

    Central Pneumatic Air Compressor

With most lower cost compressors you MUST pay attention to the duty cycle. You can not run most of them pumps all the time. You will burn them out. If it has a 30% duty cycle, you can only have the pump running 30% of the time. Runs for a minute it must cool off, not running, for two minutes...

    All Oven Cleaners not equal

I had GREAT luck with "Easy Off" oven cleaner. It worked on years of crud in about two minutes. A few days ago it was time to buy more. The store's house brand was on sale. More for less $, cool - right? You all know what happened when I used it yesterday. It didn't work crap. Back to the...

    Craftsman paint

I have three Craftsman tool boxes from the mid and late 60's. I want to repaint them. Does anyone know of any paint that will look about the same as the OE? Will not pay the $$$$ for Craftsman paint even if it still available. The red for the drawers is real close to Kyron Cherry Red...

    Air compresor outside OK?

A simple mod is to add an automatic drain to the bottom fitting on the tank. It takes 120v and can be set to how often it drains just a little out of the tank. Rubber pads made for air compressors are great. Make you have a flex hose between tank ouitlet and the piping. Wish I had one that...
