Want to change 727 over to turbo400

an upgrade to a turbo hydramatic 400 is the classic definition of a oxymoron. like a crying clown kinda thing. the above posters pretty much nailed it.

    904 to 727

don't matter to me IF i'm runnin' a smallblock, but.... I hate sinking $$$ into something when I don't have to. IE: $$$ into a 904 to make it almost as strong as a stock 727. i can make up the tenth to tenth and a half elsewhere. If anybody tells yah a 904 gets more ET then that, there full of crap.

    904 to 727

big deal. my mostly street drivin heavy, heavy charger runs 8/10 & 9mph faster. tires on the street are the tires I rape smallblocks with at the track. Then I drive the 90 miles back home.

    904 to 727

mild 440, A833-B, 69 Charger 500, 3580lbs, etc would be street car. Demon (now sold) ran 11.20's. 1 sec. slower and 130lbs lighter then this pig.(same engine). now..post your info

drag strip is secondary...well that explains the 904 then. get real.

    904 to 727

there is no arguement. the 727 is a much stronger and more durable trans then the 904. period. where not talkin about clutches here, or bands getting erased. but hey...what do i know. i'm surprised with "todays" technology the market isn't flooded with 904 bein offered for the BB. if they can...

    904 to 727

    904 to 727

the correct answer would be torque.

    904 to 727

yah ok, think about that the nexy time your 904 splits down the middle. think that won't happen? but i forgot there talkin' smallblocks...well until it gets to the 400+ cube territory. peeling out on the street is one thing, getting good hook at the track is another abuse wise. wonder why the...

    904 to 727

you could learn something from "old school thinking". 727 will last about 3 times longer on the street. I'd give up the tenth/ tenth and a half for lotsa durability. BB SS/AS and A/SA racers use 904 internals in a 727 case, but it would last a 1000 miles on the street. Once you get into the...

    9 1/4" Axle Swap?

Moser sells new 8 3/4" rear housing ends (weld on). If you really wanna use 9 1/4" differential, you can weld those housing ends to the 9 1/4" Diff. That way you can eliminate the c-clips all together. Then all you need to do is get custom length 31 spline axles ( 8 3/4" where 30 spline) .

    many thanks good sir!

    8 1/4?

The number from your rear end shows that it is a 8.25 axle from a 1969-70 B body.

    9 1/4" Axle Swap?

close? no. you'll be miles ahead finding a mid to late 70's 9 1/4 diff. you still have to cut/jig/reweld housing, custom axles, etc. if your on a buget get a 8 1/4 diff. get som A/M axles, a suregrip, and you should be good to go as long as the car isn't to heavy.
