    Help it is grinding bad

What wheels are you using on the car? If they're reproduction wheels, they could be causing the drum to flex inward when you tighten the lugs, and the drum will hit the backing plate. Happened to me. George

How Do I Get the Brake Pedal Rod Out of the Back of the Master Cylinder Piston ??

Next time, just loosten the nuts that hold the master to the firewall. Once it's loose enough, you can slip a thin bar, or screwdriver shaft between the firewall and the back of the master. Then, go inside the car and pull up on the brake pedal. Once the rod is out, finish removing the master...

    Cleaning brake parts

Really! Most people that pass through here tell me how much they hate the area! LOL Especially truckers because most of the 2 lanes are very narrow and always congested with rude drivers, and the Interstates are bumper to bumper almost all day. I myself dislike the NE because of the poor...

    Cleaning brake parts

Yep. Got about 9" here today. They predicted 4-7. Had to plow it cause I sure as hell aint shovelin! LOL Cold as f&^k too. The fumes (if burned) from Brake Cleaner can cause instant, very serious, lasting health problems. I don't even stock any in the garage anymore. If I need a can I go buy...

    Cleaning brake parts

DO NOT smoke around that stuff, and turn off any garage heaters and leave them off until the smell goes away. Works good, but deadly stuff. George

    Power drum brakes questions??

Same exact situation happened to my 69 Swinger 340 car, and it turned out to be a tear in the rubber diaphram in the booster. It was the same booster that you have pictured. I could not find a replacement anywhere, from anyone, so I had to have my original repaired. Good Luck bud! George

    tube straightening...

Buy a kit from eBay of bendable brake lines. They come straight with the ends already installed, and double flared, with copper plate like the originals. They give enough in the kit to do a whole car and then some. Was like $50 to do my Dart, and I have a lot left over. Several different lengths...

    Problem with power brakes

Internal vacuum leak. There's probably a tear in one (or more) of the diaphrams. Good Luck trying to find a replacement. I looked for 2 years for a new/rebuilt one for my 69 Swinger 340 car and never found one. Booster Dewey is probably your only hope unless you find a good used one. George

Sounds like the rubber diaphram inside is torn or otherwise leaking vacuum. Be careful driving it like that. George

    Power Brake Booster Question

SG- I went to the Autozone site and looked again. Their part number is 54-76206 for the booster only without master, for front drum brakes. Here is a link to the part from their site. Hope this helps buddy...

    Power Brake Booster Question

SGBARRACUDA- The Autozone site didn't list a "part number", but as soon as it arrives I'll post their part number for you. I should have it mid week. If you go to their website, simply plug in the info about your car and it will bring up 2 or 3 pieces/options to choose from; i.e. with or...

    booster master cyl combo help

Let me know where you get this factory replacement booster from as I tried for months to get a rebuild unit from NAPA without any luck. They never seem to have any cores to rebuild. I bought a used one from a member here last fall and it was a waste of money as it is a real POS with a HUGE...

    Power Brake Booster Question

Thanks guys. Oldcoot- I did exactly that. The car has an idle misfire, so I clamped the booster hose closed and the idle smoothed out. Once I unclamped the hose, the idle speed changed and the misfire was back. SGBARRACUDA- The boosters appear to be the same size. Both have the "band clamp"...

    Power Brake Booster Question

Are the brake boosters the same between a 70 Duster with front disc's and a 69 Dart with 10" drums? I think the booster in my 69 Dart has an internal vacuum leak. I can still drive the car so I don't want to take it off the road. I have another booster from a 70 Duster and that car had front...

You're not overfilling it are you? Should be about 1/4" from the top. George

    Rear brake adjust help please.

The star adjuster should only turn in one direction as the self adjusting bar will prevent it from turning the opposite way. If you can turn it both ways with the brake spoon, something is amiss in there and should be checked out. George

69 Dart rear drum brake questions / help ??

Big Richie O! Redfish has it dead on balls, you need to shine a light in there so ya can see what you're doing. Push the adjusting lever away from the starwheel, and use a flat head screwdriver to back the adjustment down. Good Luck!! George

10 inch brake drums any diferences

No problem at all Snake. The original drum must have been scored too deeply to machine out, so the only thing to do is replace it. Carry on, sir! :D

    wheel clyliders 69 dart

Ran into the same problem with my car Snake, and I am positive my bolts are original to the car. I ended up screwing the bolts all the way in by hand (clean the threads with a tap first) then used an open end wrench to snug them down. What holds the wheel cylinder to the backing plate is the...

    Brake problem?

Rob If you clamp the front hoses closed and the pedal comes up, then it isn't the prop valve. Did you check into the caliper/MC match? George

    Brake problem?

1990 has rear anti lock only. He said if he clamps the front rubber hoses, he'll get a pedal. That tells me there is air in the front calipers that he can't get out, or the wrong MC for the calipers used, if there is a difference at all. In this case, the RWAL should have no effect on his...

    Brake problem?

You clamp the rubber brake hose, and the pedal is there, then you unclamp it and the pedal goes away? There is air in the calipers if the above statement is true. Dumb question, but are you SURE the bleeders on the calipers are at the TOP of the caliper? These trucks are designed so there...

    Brake problem?

Redfish is right. I had problems with the proportioning valve which is located in the frame C channel in FRONT of the drivers foot area. There is a secondary valve built into it whose name escapes me right now. This valve was messed up on my truck, turning on the ANTILOCK warning light, but...

    Brake problem?

I bought a 1990 Ram brand new, and still have it. REAR wheel ABS was standard equipment, as is stainless exhaust system. My ABS does not work correctly anymore, but the brakes operate normally. I bled my system the old fashioned way, and got all the air out. There is also a bleeder mounted...
