Yes but those 68 Valiant springs are 55 years old! think twice before you swap a 55 year old wearing item on your car!! Yeah buying new super stock springs was probably not a good idea if your car is a fair weather cruiser. You need to get new 340 or HD Springs instead of super stock springs...

As others have said, there no point extending the life of those springs by re-arching them. Toss them in the recycle pile and buy a new pair. New steel that hasn’t already spent 45+yrs holding up over 1,200lbs and flexing/bending while covering well over 100,000 miles.

The leaf springs are indifferent to if it’s connected to a 7 1/4, 8 1/4 or 8 3/4. The U bolts and shock plates do care though. ESPO springs. Give them a call.

Cheap is a relative term. What’s your price bracket for cheap leaf springs?

How old are the bushings? If you don’t know and if you’ve got the front end apart, I’d get them replaced. Do some research (it’s been covered many times on this site) as I believe ploy bushings are not the same size as the rubber bushings for the LCA.

When I replaced the 7 1/4 in mine with a 8 1/4, I also replaced the springs. The original 33 year springs only had 70k miles on them but they were tired. Swapping in as a unit was quite straightforward.

Are they 44 year old springs? If they already have a good arch, why are you adding adding more leaves? New springs are not that much once you factor in your time of finding new leaves and messing with the old ones. They will still be 44 year old leaves even once you add another leaf.

You going with rubber or polyurethane bushings? Some folks have had got some questionable Moog rubber bushings recently since they’re made in China now? I went with rubber (Moog) and bought it all from Lordco a few years ago.

The MP XHD springs are different left and rear. The placement of the leaves on the springs is the difference as the arch is higher on one. If you’re able to return one, that’s pretty good (even if you have to pay for shipping). I bought mine from a dealership and there’s no returns on MP...

Super stock leaf springs are more than what you want for a daily driver; your teeth are going to rattle with SS springs. You want the 340 leaf springs that ESPO sells. Do a search on here for leaf spring replacements and you will find the info you need..

So did you have the right bushings originally? Did you supply the bushings or did the shop buy and install the bushings? Are the new bushings different from the ones that squeaked? Where was(were) the error(s)?

The dimensions of the leaf springs were the same, at least from ‘67 to ‘76 regardless if it had a 7 1/4, 8 1/4 or 8 3/4 rear end. Only difference would be how many leaves they would have. Slant 6 cars would have had fewer leaves than 340 cars.

So what shop did the work?

First decision to make is if you are going to go with poly or rubber bushings. From that you will know which kit/parts to buy. I had mine done last year (sway bar bushings, end links, ball joints, uca, LCA and strut rod bushings, etc) and went with Moog parts for everything.
