    do chains really stretch?

Actually Karl, I put it on from recommendations from posters on this site. Never too old to learn! I didn't believe in them before, and thought they were just a band-aid for 3.9s The odd part about that motor to me, is that it came with a windage tray, stock. It was out of a low mile...

    340 crank

As Jimbo said, 273, 318 and 340 all have the same rod and main journal size. The 360 has a larger main journal, but same rod journals. Lots of cranks over the years, and steel cranks from 318s used to be pretty easy to find. Some of the early 340 cranks were factory shot peened, or so I...

    318/360 roller camshafts

Kim, you might be right, this calls out the roller 318 at .391 and is not specific on the roller 360. Good call. http://www.allpar.com/mopar/318.html I could have sworn I found a place that called out the roller 360, but this sure doesn't show it.

    318/360 roller camshafts

I have one of each engine, (89 318, 91 360) and did some research trying to learn what the stock cam specs were. The 318 is 390 lift IIRC, and the 360 is in the low 4s. I was thinking about putting my 360 cam in my 318, since I have a comp roller for the 360, but it runs so good, I hate to mess...

    Rocker arm recommendations

They are Mopar Perfomance Wiseco pistons, very light, and they are at zero deck.

need some help from the masters :notworth:

Well said, I agree. Why run mismatched stuff if you don't have to, and already have it apart. Especially with 318 people having a hard time finding that intake.

need some help from the masters :notworth:

With J heads? Really? I guess that the definition of "work" is relative. Oh heck yeah, it will work, but why bother with what he is doing then? It is a 4 barrel intake for an LA motor, as long as it doesn't leak air or water, it will work. But why mill the heads down to 63 cc and put in a...

need some help from the masters :notworth:

I think you are going to lose everything you are trying to gain with that intake. Lots of people looking for them, since they have the smaller runners that a 273/318 needs. Get yourself and LD340, or something similar of later vintage like an M-1 dual plane.

Little bit of a rant about Mopar heads...

I have a total virgin set of 576s that I am not too proud of, not rusty, have been inside since dissasembling the motor, and have already ported on my nice 308s, so that probably won't work for stock class. You can have the 576s for $100 if you want to pick them up. They were off a 78 360...

    intake manifold question

It is carbon, from the exhaust being forced back up through the center of the intake for warmup. This is the job of the heat exchanger on the passenger side exhaust manifold, to remain mostly closed until the thermocouple spring on the outside of it warms up, and holds the flapper open. Of...

    Bolts

Motor must have originally been out of a C Body. It is a symbol for the land yacht. Just kidding, in a good mood today. I would say it is the bolt manufacturers logo.

    Hydraulic roller questions

Thanks crackedback and everyone else, I truly appreciate the input. I checked out those 26120 springs, they are a beehive, and I would need the heads machined to work with them. I got ahold of my tech guy at Comp, and he actually told me to contact Mopar performance. He has always been very...

    Its a sickness,

That does it, you guys have helped me make up mind. I am going to put the dual quads on this motor, wanted to anyway.

    Its a sickness,

Worked on the heads all weekend, and no cracks! As many have mentioned, there sure is a huge improvement on the exhaust side of these, the intake side, not so much.

    Hydraulic roller questions

    1) Here is the cam, it is a street deal for my Barracuda. Not really wanting to spend a lot of money, unless it is needed. 2) I understand that, but it had roller to start with. I used to use vasco jet springs with my solid roller, but wasn't sure about this hydraulic stuff. 3) Thanks, I...

    Hydraulic roller questions

Once again, I need some help from you guys, as this hydraulic roller stuff is confusing me, and I have some questions that may seem pretty stupid. I appreciate your help in advance, and am interested in your opinions. I just put the 89 318 302s back together stock, but I want to get the most...

    308 true or false?

I just bought a motor that came out of a 91 one ton dually, and it has them.

New 416" street/track motor just fired up! (pics, vids, specs)

Careful, or Strokerscamp will be busting another one off. Very nice job, and thanks for all the pictures. Curious about the late model alternator, is that a complicated upgrade over the old ones?

    Its a sickness,

thanks, can't wait to get to that part. Haha, stroker said busted one off. My buddy used to have a hilborn set up like that on his 68 Barracuda drag car, loved it. This one don't look like it has been over heated, but the signs recirculating exhaust gasses back in the motor are there...

    Its a sickness,

Thanks, I had read that about them on here, it is almost legend. But these look great, so far. I have them soaking in solvent ( I hate dirty parts) and will get them apart soon. All the valves both intake, and exhaust look the same consistent colors. The spark plugs were spotless, so far no...

    Its a sickness,

I had them tuned pretty nice on the stroker motor, don't see why I can't do it again. I kind of agree with you and was leaning that way. That Thumper cam had a lot more duration though, which makes it easier to tune dual quads in my opinion.

    Its a sickness,

As some of you may remember, last year I took the stroker 340 out, after I bought an 89 318, at the recommendation of this board. I learned a lot here, about these later model motors, and decided the 89-91 motors are the best option. I had never, after building at least 40 engines, worked on one...

    318 poly heads?

I built a three of them, back in the day. I had a 58 Plymouth, JSA forumla 5, AHRA, running a 2 barrel. My first car, a 57 Fury had one, then I did a frame off on a 57 Fury in the mid 80s. I don't think I could tell the short blocks apart, from an LA motor, except for the valve reliefs on...

    Timing Chain Tensioner 318/360

I had always viewed them as a bandaid on the 3.9, as the only time I ever saw one on a Mopar I have taken apart, was on the 3.9 that was in my Dakota. I picked up a real low mile 91 360 last Saturday, so I am going to put one on it.

    Timing Chain Tensioner 318/360

Same here, I had never used one for the reasons I mentioned, but I just ordered one for the 360 I have on the stand. I am here to learn, maybe I will see some improvement that justifies it.

    Timing Chain Tensioner 318/360

So are you saying the chain doesn't rub on the tensioner? If it does, it adds friction. Why did Mother Mopar put these on v6s, did they ever put them on v8s?
  28. HemiEd

    Timing Chain Tensioner 318/360

I have a rather unpopular opinion on that item, so flame away. It is nice and all, and was made for 3.9 v6 because of the inherent problems with that motor. It was not designed as a v6, it was a quick solution to the lack of a v6 in the line, by dropping two cylinders from the LA motor. The...

360 LA or 360 Magnum Whats the difference?

360 went to roller cam in 89,(http://www.allpar.com/mopar/318.html) and this is one reason I bought this motor. I was hoping the heads would be a bigger version of the 302 head my 89 318 has, but guess that isn't true. But if the exhaust port is fixed on the 308, that is great. I need to...

360 LA or 360 Magnum Whats the difference?

I just bought a 91 360 out of a big truck. It is going to be an LA, roller hydraulic with the 360 heart shaped heads, correct?
