Compression test results and plug color question.

Yes, it was just idling in the garage till warmed up. Didn't know about doing a wide open blast before pulling the plugs. And I didn't really pull them to read the plugs, but to do the compression test. Just thought I'd ask what you guys though cause #8 looked so much more white than the rest.

Compression test results and plug color question.

So the other day I decided to run a compression test on my 5.9 magnum. Haven't done one since I put the engine together a couple years ago, so just decided to check it out. Numbers look pretty even across the board, all between 139 and 144. Plugs look kinda of black and sooty probably because...

Thinnest head gaskets for a magnum?

Well did some searching and found the Cometic 5633-027 .027 thickness, but their $80 Each ! If I can't find a thin gasket cheaper than that I'll just do the cam swap and leave the heads alone.

Thinnest head gaskets for a magnum?

Who makes the thinnest head gaskets that will work with a 5.9 magnum? Doing a cam swap this winter and thought that would be a good time to switch to the thinner head gaskets. Right now i'm running whatever came in my rebuild gasket set, probably .045, or .050 thick. Suggestions? Part numbers...

Reverse Split Pattern Cam - 318 Magnum Head swap

Hmmm, interesting. I almost bought that cam off amazon because of the low cost. Ended up getting the next step up 20200715, it was also very cheap compared to every other retailer. Got it for $159. When I bought it said (1 left) If you look now its like $295. Just checked the cam card that...

    Cam selection for 5.9 mag

Trailbeast, I was hoping you'd chime in, cause I know we have similar setups, and that your at nearly the same elevation as me. I know some guys pic cams on how they sound, but I dont really care about the sound. Just want it to have a little more pep that it has now, and like you I dont want...

    Cam selection for 5.9 mag

Ok, I know this has been beat to death, and I should have all the answers by now after reading all the other threads, but sometimes i'm a little dense and it takes a bit to sink in. Looking to do a cam change, not right away but in the near future. I'd like opinions on a couple of specific...

Question about Edelbrock RPM Airgap - thermostat housing leak

Does seem weird that they would leave gaps in that raised ring. Anyway it’s back on there now, I’ll go ahead and try it for a while and keep an eye on it. First sign of a leak after this and I’ll order one with the o-ring. Or maybe I’ll just go ahead and order it so I have it on hand.

Question about Edelbrock RPM Airgap - thermostat housing leak

Update: So after getting the housing back off, and getting all the old silicone and gasket off. I tried just sitting the housing on the manifold, and it rocks back and forth from side to side. This housing has a little raised ring on the surface, which apparently wasn't very flat. Laid it on a...

Question about Edelbrock RPM Airgap - thermostat housing leak

Bobzilla, It's been doing this for a few months, I have checked it several times and I cant see or feel any antifreeze leaking down from the hose connection. The bolts are definitely not too long, checked that before I put it together the first time. AJ/FormS, both the manifold and the...

Question about Edelbrock RPM Airgap - thermostat housing leak

Well I keep going out in the garage and finding a puddle of antifreeze in my thermostat housing, and a big puddle in the valley of the airgap manifold. Manifold is new, thermostat and housing are new, put it together with permatex ultra gray. I think its seeping up around the threads of the...

500 miles later with my DIY 318 rebuild...

Do chrome moly rings really exist? Some 30 years ago I guess (man time flies) when build my first 318, I took all my parts to the machine shop and I had them supply all the parts. I told him I wanted chrome moly rings, he said I’d been reading too many hotrod magazines. Said I could have chrome...

Cant seem to stop my drain plug from dripping oil. Its a brand new Summit 360 pan. Drain plug came with a white nylon gasket, it leaked, so I went to the store and got a copper one, it leaks. Don't dare tighten the thing any tighter, don't want to strip out my new pan. Does anyone make a...

Break in procedure for rebuilt 5.9?

Well, I decided to take the advice of MrJLR, "Just drive it like you stole it" Krooser -"No one breaks in a race engine by taking it easy for 500 miles and neither should you." and JBC426, - "then load the engine under full throttle up and down through the rev range a couple dozen times". I...

Break in procedure for rebuilt 5.9?

So with the 5.9 swap finally done on my Dart and it’s time to start driving it. Is there anything special I need to do to break it in? Obviously it’s roller cam so don’t need to worry about, but just wondering more about getting the rings to seat and all that. The rebuild was a basic, hone and...

    Magnum serpentine belt questions

Yeah, the only reason I didn't do the narrow battery thing is because I already have a brand new interstate battery for it that I won as a door prize at a car show last summer. And pretty sure my belt routing is correct. I looked back at pics of the engine before I tore it apart. And the new...
