    Oddball stroker question

An acquaintance has a Chrysler early 70s boat. Says it still runs perfectly. Original and in good condition and from what I understand it is a single 318. You have a really cool project!

Manifold off, now what?? Lol...newbie question

:D Yea, just start it up and immediately hold to the floor for 30 seconds like my old hillbilly friends used to do when there were mice in the breather. Everything will come out the tail pipe eventually.

Manifold off, now what?? Lol...newbie question

Put towel down on lifter valley under heads and along bottom. Get a shop vac and suck directly where you are scraping on front and rear rail till they are perfectly bare metal. Then clean rails with carb or brake cleaner. Build a duct tape bowl between the front and rear rail once it is...

    Destroking an Engine

What is the objective? Fuel mileage in an A-Body? 318 with some sort of proper quench heads, quite mild cam which operates perfectly at the rpm range based on your driving speed vs. rpm, heat cross-over operational on a performer intake, small diameter tube headers, quadrajet or TQ, 4 speed...

Best way to seal intake and what gasket?

I use very thin, approx 1/16 " thick on both sides of the gasket. I set it all in place and snug the bolts on the intake and wait a couple hours then torque intake bolts to recommended levels.

Best way to seal intake and what gasket?

All this magic goop wont help much unless you have proper preparation. I use denatured alcohol on clean microfiber cloths and lots of both. What I would do is pull intake, clean the whole gasket areas on everything with lint free cloth and lots of denatured alcohol. If you have debris or any...

Gloss black powdercoated a bunch of misc brackets, pulleys and bolts. Gloss black VHT the engine. Cleared the transmission. Leanna did the valve covers. The aluminum intake is powdercoated gloss silver. Got some grey plug wires and zinc coated headers.

What color to paint my new engine?

    What weight oil

Redline. 5w30 or 5w40 depending on your oil pressure at maximum operating temperature. Otherwise for a cheap solid option, check out rotella 10w30. Alternately if you must have really thick oil (which is usually totally unnecessary for street engines), Rotella 15w40. I am running rotella...

    Camshaft Extra Lube

you running oil designed for startup? Or are you running additive in your oil designed for startup? i'd fill the pan with startup oil or oil+startup additive and prime till all passages were guaranteed full, then do all you can to ensure immediate fireup and sustained operation at 2k for 30...

    Are 273 rockers true 1.5?

That's awesome. Not. Figures. Obviously trying to circumnavigate buying aftermarket rockers on my 300 - 359 horse 360. I.E. budget build.

    Are 273 rockers true 1.5?

Hey folks. I have wondered for 10 years, are 273 rockers true 1.5 vs the stamped 1.434135:1 or is the "issue" just related to valve train geometry on stock sb mopar rockers? Thanks to any informed answers.

    Improving MPG

Your 3.23 and factory torque converter are probably best for your scenario of city and high way driving and getting decent mileage. I agree with 805's detailed check list. Get all that done first then start thinking about the next step after you have optimized your existing setup. Maybe if...

Break in oils, zinc and all that jazz

OHC has less valve train mass typically. Small engines and small valve train components with modern materials have less valve train mass. Combined they need less valve spring pressure. Even with slider cam followers or direct lifter to cam contact, they have less pressure at the nose. Probably...

raced a lt1 trans am tonight in my abody!

Hey, bigtommy, I reckon you are primarily interested in 1/4 mile runs?? Have you been to a drag strip and test / tune your car? Does the engine and transmission run decent now? If your engine - trans is running smooth, then focus on the suspension for a bit. All the 1/4 mile street races...

Stock 360. Add Cam and intake.

Okay cool. Understood. Thanks for the replies. My budget out the door is 2K. I already have the headers and intake / carb. I actually have not been to the machine shop in 15 years and it was in a far away state so I have no ideas as to the costs. Reckon I need to tear down the engine and get...

Stock 360. Add Cam and intake.

As of late I have decided to overhaul this engine with mild performance with a econo budget and some tlc. Considering that I need an engine for 2 years or so that is fun to run and reliable, I am changing gears a bit. I have a new RPM (not air gap). I have new dougs full length. I have a new...

    I need more room!l

That setup looks and sounds like a great job. Very clean and robust. The air is probably pumping downward and recirculating from the bottom more than the top, since there is like 5 + inches of clearance under your rad support. Put an air dam on the bottom of the core support made of cardboard...

    Poll: Synthetic/Conventional/Blend

Run all the polls you want. Start all the new threads re-hashing old news all you want. My impression is operators of this website would rather there be more threads and more content, than less. I run napa full synthetic in modern fuel injected cars, with more extended drain intervals but my...

    340 coolant temperature

Do a bit of research on fan shrouds. Holes in the shroud (with out flaps) defeat the purpose of having a fan shroud which is a plenum where low pressure is created between fans and radiator. Logically and efficiently designed fan shrouds have either large diameter fans which allow full...

What color block? What kinds of paint?

What color is your engine bay going to be/ already is? Then find a nice color that contrasts that. My bay is going to be a medium metallic blue, so I will paint my engine orange. If it is a new rebuild or an old engine, I suggest washing and scrubbing the engine with strong soapy water...

    The Hated EGR Valve Discussion......

Interested in more sequential information to the process and its results. Seems that introduction of exhaust gases would dilute the charge in the combustion chamber. What is the advantage of this? Heating the charge? Cooling the charge? Creating more evenly distributed charge? Increasing the...
