    71 Thermoquad rebuild

if I remember correctly, the 71 T/Qs are a one year only style carb with the canted idle screws, but I would think that carb kits are still available from auto parts stores. I think the manual transmission 340 carb number is 4972, and the 340 automatic is number 4973, in case you need the carb...

    Holley 4779-2 rebuild

I'm not sure about baseplate modifications, and thats exactly where I am at, trying to find out for sure what needs to be done if anything. The information that comes with the proform main body does not mention anything, but they do give you different air bleeds to install if there are no...

    Holley 4779-2 rebuild

I also have a holley 4779-2 and mine did not originally have 4 corner idle, so the secondary metering block did not have a power valve. I am in the process of changing the main body to a proform, and adding a different secondary metering block with idle screws. I'm only going to use this carb to...

    Carb issues

I used to own an AAR cuda, so I'm very familiar with six pack set-ups, and my superbird I have now is a six pack car. If your car has backfired through the carbs at all, I would almost bet the power valve is blown and leaking fuel... My AAR used to do this on occasion, so I always carried extra...

Need different carb for street on 408

Need different carb for street on 408

so the 750 HP you have now has no choke? Has the choke tower been milled off, or is the choke simply not hooked up? Why not stick with the same carb, if your car runs good with it, and get a choke back on it, even if it means replacing the main body for one with a choke? You can find main bodys...

Fuel Tank -16 gallons.....why can I only put in 10 gallons?

I would have to guess, the when your gauge says it's empty, that there's probably 6 gallons or so left in the tank. Maybe you need to have your fuel gauge calibrated, or make sure the arm on the sending unit is not hung up on somthing inside the tank, or bent, etc....just a thought.

    carb. crazzzzyness!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree......and lets not forget factory 440's also came with as much as 1250 CFM ( six pack), and you did'nt have to race them! They were daily drivers! I own one. LOL!

    carb. crazzzzyness!!!!!!!!!

I'm thinkin the 650 CFM is a little small for a big block. I'd be looking for an 850 CFM holley if it were me, or the 870 CFM street avanger is a nice all around carb, for your application. JMO.

    Which gas tank?

did you open your trunk, and look at the driver side wheel house? If there's a large tube protruding up through the trunk floor, that has a cap on top, fasten'd to the wheel house, then your car had the tank with the 4 vent tubes on the side. if not then your car did not have it. Most 71 cars...

    1970 AVS N95 question

so it looks as thouigh you are missing about 4 peices.....The solinoid, the choke pull-off, the linkage for the pull-off, and the small peice that the choke rod connects to. It looks as if someone as put the arm that contacts the solinoid on wrong ( 180 degrees off) ...no big deal.

    Thermoquad vs Edelbrock

I worked in chrysler dealerships for years back in the era, and thermoquads have a tendency to warp the plastic fuel bowls. Especially if the screws work loose. I'v replaced a lot of fuel bowls on these over the years. I remember it was a big problem with the lean-burn era cars, ( cordobas etc.)...

    carburetor problem?

it's not normal.........sounds like the needle and seat are leaking by, or the float is bad, and overfilling the fuel bowl. It's probably time for a carb rebuild.

72 demon 340 needs a new carb! strong opinion or suggestion?

if it were mine I'd go with a holley 670 street avenger, with electric choke....they run great! I have a 770 street avenger on my 71 duster 340 with a mildily built engine, and I'm very pleased with it.

Filter attached to output side of pump?

You say your filter plugs up a lot?? with what, rust ?? If so I'd consider replacing the fuel tank. You should not have a filter plugging up as often as you say. You need to get to the source of the problem.
