    Hurst on 833 Overdrive

I'm putting a 833 OD trans in my duster from a 78 Volare, It had a Inland shifter on it that has a broken mechanism, Will the shift rods and everything work the same with a Hurst replacement mechanism?

What would you do, 340 Dart?

I did, 100 bucks for a complete b-body rear end, with 741 highway gear 3rd member, that you don't have to shorten 300 bucks for 391 sure grip 3rd member 100 to shorten the driveshaft.

What would you do, 340 Dart?

mid sixties b body 8.75 rear ends can still be had cheap and you don't have to narrow them. Only thing you have to do is move the spring perches. I bought mine for 100 bucks, complete.

early B body rear in my duster

thats what I was thinking in the back of my mind....if the keyed axles are so weak then how did they stand up to a 12 to 1 compression ration max wedge monster?

    8 1/4 vs 8 3/4???

you are correct about the 8 3/4....it does look look similar to a ford nine inch with ahe third member removed from the front. 7.25 is easy to tell from the 8.25, just count the number of bolts on the rear cover. If it has 9 bolts then it is a 7.25, an 8.25 has 10 bolts and also has an oval...

    8 1/4 vs 8 3/4???

swapping in a 8.25 wouldn't be any easier than swapping in a 8.75, its just the cost involved. 8.75 parts are more expensive and finding the rear end itself is more expensive.

    8 1/4 vs 8 3/4???

I have seen a few factory slant six cars with manual 10 inch drum brakes....not 9 inch.....with 8.25 and sbp. And they were for sure 8.25 not 7.25, I know the difference. Chrysler did some weird stuff, it is also said like you mentioned before that they stopped production on the 8.75 in 72...

    8 1/4 vs 8 3/4???

They did have small bolt pattern available with 8.25 in '73 and up cars, a car could still get small bolt pattern if it had drums all the way around.

    Which pistol grip?

thanks, I was originally planning on going more stock but I did one little custom touch and it just snowballed from there. That looks sweet, thanks for the pic I'll have to look into the gunslinger handle kit. Thanks for the info, If it is that bad when I get it in there I can always...

    Which pistol grip?

Really, thats what I was hoping to hear, I just bought the 70-74 E-body with console shifter(new reproduction from yearone).....then started seeing that everyone else is using the B body one non console. That would be great if you could post some pics. thanks Tate
  14. thanson_mopar

    Which pistol grip?

so the 70-74 E-body one will not work because its too far of a reach?
  15. thanson_mopar

    Which pistol grip?

yep, the one I got is a reproduction made by Hurst
  16. thanson_mopar

    Which pistol grip?

yea, not sure if Im going to be able to use it or not. Might end up sending it back.
  17. thanson_mopar

    Which pistol grip?

yea I did, I know you used the 71-74 b-body non console shifter. I bought a 70-74 E-body shifter and was wondering if I could use it instead.
  18. thanson_mopar

    Which pistol grip?

I have heard that the 71-74 B body non console one will work but also heard that the 70-74 Ebody one will work too. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure.
  19. thanson_mopar

    Which pistol grip?

  20. thanson_mopar

    489 8.75 casting

Im not positive but I dont think that you can (something to do with the smaller/larger pinion?) someone here will know that for sure....pretty sure the sure grip units are interchangable
  22. thanson_mopar

    489 8.75 casting

yea, Id say if you swap out the 741 then look for a 489 since a 742 wont be a whole lot stronger than the 741.
  23. thanson_mopar

    489 8.75 casting

just looked in my info It means you have a 69-74 casting I thought that the 275 might of been a gear ratio but it looks like they only had the 2.76 as a gear ratio but it doesnt matter since 69-74 cases had the gear ratio on tags NOT cast into the case hope this helps
  24. thanson_mopar

    489 8.75 casting

the 2881489 means it is a 489 case and the 2881 is just one of the 489 cases, there are different numbers for different cases. I think they primarily tell you what "era" it is from
  25. thanson_mopar

    8 1/4?

maybe, if you dont put any meaty tires on it. Probably be best to go with an 8.75.
  26. thanson_mopar

what rear end do i have?

yep definitely a 8.25 with the oval 10 bolt rear cover.
  27. thanson_mopar

what rear end do i have?

pics will be needed to be positive but typically 9 bolt rear cover is a 7.25 10 bolt with oval shaped rear cover is 8.25 removable 3rd member....(looks like a 9 inch ford) is a 8.75
  28. thanson_mopar

    help identify this 8.75

just not crazy about bolt on axles...means you gotta get a puller and alot of force just to do a brake job
  29. thanson_mopar

    help identify this 8.75

pretty sure this is a 64 rear end....and the old man that runs this salvage yard thought this might be the rear end to his brothers old max wedge car.....is this possible. Wouldnt a max wedge rear end be worth quite a little bit of coin
