I use JE box skirt piston, 10 gas ports and I had them move the ring lands down and further apart for spray, total seal rings with gapless top. The box type piston is super strong and worth the little extra money

all the stuff you are checking is good to check but your hesitation is a lean bog, that's why it doesn't do it when you roll into the throttle slowly, tune your carb, or throw that junk edelbrock away, and I would just run 92 octane, no need for race gas at 10-1

when you tapped it in where did you hit it? I have tapped the intermediate shafts in before but I use a long screwdriver and tap in the slot very lightly, I think you hit it on the gear and bent the shaft

I think it would push out the end of the intake, I have had them push out the corners of the oil pan also, the head gasket will only get pressure from compression and coolant, not so much crankcase pressure

they can crack if you don't heat them up and cool them down slow enough, I have used epoxy on several heads and never had an issue. can't remember what I used though, it was a two part mix, got it from a shop that does head porting

I am thinking you created a leak with to much crankcase pressure, even though you have the pcv in one cover it was doing nothing because you had a cap on the other valve cover, basically you have a sealed motor, doesn't take much blowby to create pressure
