How Could I Be So Stupid/Careless?

I began taking High School Auto Shop as a junior in 1972. Circa 1995, I was re-building a small carburetor belonging to a 1984-84 Dodge Caravan 2.2 liter four-cylinder for a customer of my then mobile auto repair. Every one knows to be very careful about insuring nothing falls inside the intake...

    Storage Consequences

Purchase the '65 Valiant Signet convertible 13 or 14 years ago now, and it still sits waiting for some attention. It could not even be moved around the yard a few months ago, when I found the brake pedal hit the floorboard and the master cylinder was empty. So I performed a fairly complete...

    Message From Previous Owner

Our '65 Plymouth Valiant Signet Convertible was purchased June 18, 2008 almost 14 years ago! I found Denise, the previous owner on Linkedin and this was her message: "Oh my gosh - do you still have "my" car?? I miss her terribly!"

Do factory equipped vehicles always have same size drums front/rear?

My '65 Valiant Signet V-8 currently has 10 inch front drums and 9 inch rear drums. A previous owner swapped in the current 7 1/4 inch rear end from a '74 Dodge. I was wondering what my vehicle originally must have had factory installed for rear drums 9 or 10 inch? And then the question in the...

    Funny Noise

When I turn off the ignition, as the motor comes to a complete stop from idle, I can hear a strange very brief whoosh of something like compressed air. Kinda like a loud wheeze, it's hard to put into words. The 1980 long-block motor received a stock rebuild about ten years ago and only has a...

    Let's See Your A-Body AutoCrosser

Back in the 70's I ran autocross one day at the Salinas Airport in my four-speed '65 bracket racer. A bystander told me I needed wider front tires, being the fact he observed the 15 inch VW beetle tires were in one place, while the rims were in another place on the turns. I came in last place...

Who Has the Most Installed "Real" Wood Used During Factory Assembly?

    Is This a Factory Spring?

Found this on my '65 Barracuda where a previous owner swapped in a later 8 3/4 open differential. If it's factory, what was it used for? If not, I wonder what it's doing here? Thank you. (also posted on FBBO).

    My "Barn-Find" Auto Parts Store

No computers, no employees at Logan Auto Parts in La Paz, BCS, Mexico. I only deal with the owner (nobody else there) who did not even ask what make and model I was working on. I just handed him the front wheel bearings and seals and a single point distributor from the '65 Barracuda. It only...

Did the Assembly Plants Lubricate Starter/Flywheel Teeth?

Going to re-install the starter soon and I got to thinking, would grease just fly off the teeth if it was lubricated, making the effort a waste of time and just making a mess of things?

Anyone Using Factory Firewall Insulation In Combination with Dynamat/Thermo-Tec?

The sticky foil-type aftermarket stuff is not very "thick" and it seems it would fit underneath the factory yellow-type insulation that is also available to purchase in the marketplace. Doubling the barrier seems like a win-win situation (unless I am missing something here).

    Metal, not Plastic

Just found an air shock "T" fill valve (150 max, 25 min air pressure) that must have been loose in the trunk of my '65 Formula S when purchased about ten years ago. They are all made from plastic now.

Can Motor Be Installed Without Removing Hood?

Now that the '65 Formula S is newly painted and hood/fenders aligned, it's almost time to reinstall the motor and 904 transmission. Do I need to remove the hood (which I usually do) to install the motor or the motor/transmission? Thank you. (just have the everyday cherry picker and jack...

Where Did This Tiny Spring Come From ('65 Barracuda)?

1965 Formula S automatic is going to be put back together during the following months. Don't know how this little spring ended up on the floor and not tagged/bagged. All I know is it has a little red paint on it and one hook has rusted off.

Do Early A-Bodies Truly Have Lower Profile Hoods?

The first generation Ford Mustang hood does not seem to me to stick up any higher from the ground than the first generation Barracuda (although I have never measured or compared them side-by-side). But didn't Chrysler claim the six cylinder motors were manufactured at a 30 degree angle to allow...
