A local guy did a disc swap and gave me his left over 11'' parts, drums backing plates and spindles from a 71 Charger R/T.
My question is can they be used on a 72 Dart ?. It has 9'' brakes and the small upper ball joints so a change or adapter would be used.
This is just thinking out loud. Just wondering if it can be done.

You gonna change the rear axle wheel bolt pattern as well?

I would for sure before you do this, check availability of parts, brake shoes, cylinders, and hardware. Maybe even drums, and on that subject how worn are the drums? Are you aware of the pitfalls there, AKA turned oversized drums will not fit the lining, which must be "arced" or arc ground to fit. Good luck finding a shop with a shoe arcing machine, anymore

Yes Dr.Diff 7 1/4'' kit About $500 for everything.
The guy I got the parts from restored the car and wanted everything O.E.So brakes/hardware drums are new.
Till he started driving it. Brakes and bias ply tires were the first to go. Many want O.E. restorations till they start to drive 'um.
Things change quick.
As I said this was just thinking out loud, may never do the Dart as I just don't feel it anymore. It's just sitting in the corner.

I would use them but I ain't normal. If Wong the Chinaman wants to reproduce a OEM rotor, a drum, the info is out there. This has already been done several times. 30 years from now when a Joe Blow rotor is needed and Joe is Nomo where would Wong go?

Yes.
The B body front brakes will work but you will need the bigger ball joint UCAs.
The adapter kit sold by Dr Diff to allow the small ball joint UCAs does not always work. The shank of the ball joint is shorter on some units leaving nothing to attach a nut to. I posted about this a couple of months back.

Yes. I found that out on another build a few years back.
Well if I get motivated I may do something with the Dart.
Thanks for the info gang.

I wouldn’t spend $500 on anything for a 7 1/4” rear axle.

Spend the $500 on disc brakes for the front and find an 8 2/5” with the 5 1/2” bolt pattern.

Or better still find a disc brake car and do it for cheap.
