1964 Dart Grüne Hölle Road Course/Track Day/AutoX Project

The racks are all Thule Parts. Not cheap, but if you want to scrounge the CLn FBM, ebay you can find the parts, but the ads do not always have what you need and you end up with extra Thule bits to sell off.

I have just bought a second set of racks to put on my other MoPars.
This set uses a foot pack that is made for rain gutters.
I use the 5" foot pack - Thule Rapid Gutter Low Foot 300101

Great! because all my MoPars (including the truck and Van have rain gutters except for the 2 F Bodies.
My F body Wagon already has a Factory Roof Rack so that is okay and the F body Volare' Duster is a smooth roof with no rain gutters. I might invest in a seasucker bike rack for that car. again $$$, but It can be moved to any car.

The Cross Bars are Thule Wingbar Evo 135cm / 53"
I suppose other bars and Feet could be used, but I like the modular tslot on the Wingbar Evo's so that if I get a roof basket or a kayak carrier etc, I can jet look for Thule bits and make sure they work with the Wingbar Evo. I also dont like the lack of aerodynamics of the Square Bars.

The Bike Racks are Thule Fast Ride I have 2 so far and they are easy to remove or reposition. So If I have a rack on another car, I can just put the second fastride on that car's bars. I found that I can Load a Canoe on my 53" bars and set both fastrides to the outside edge of the roof cross bars. I will have some pictures of that next week.


Hope this is helpful. Adding these bits and the hitch to my cars makes my Truck not needed as much anymore, and these are more fun to drive ans use less gas.
I figured it was Thule. You're right. Not cheap, but very nice quality. Thanks!

Going on a camping trip with my daughter for a few days. The Grüne Hölle is loaded up and ready for adventure.

6/14/25:

More adventure was had:

The plan was my daughter and I were to go camping at a semi-local state park (Prince Gallitizin SP to be exact) 78 miles from home.
We took the Grüne Hölle Dart and the ValianTrailer with all of our food, gear, tents, paddles, canoe, bikes, and all the rest of the stuff for camping.
We had a nice little site on the main road of the campground. It's safe to say we were the only campers with a '64 Dart.

We had great weather the entire time. (it's raining again here now), We got some biking in, spent some time fishing and paddling on the lake as well as just hanging out, making a campfire, cooking s'mores and mountain pies.

As I was taking these pictures, A nice guy said that he followed us ~ 5 miles from the local town to the State park sign where we looped around the parking area for these shots. The gentleman and I exchanged some stories. He proclaimed that he was appreciative of old cars and stuff of the sort, and that he had just finished up installing a windshield in a VW bug earlier that day before dinner.

At night my daughter and I would take a stroll to the lake. The campground area is essentially on a ~1 mile x 1/2 Mile peninsula that juts out into the lake.
Every night the weather, wind, and water was calm, no boats out late, and 2 out of 3 nights it was clear save for the Canadian wildfire smoke making some haze.
This was the view on Tuesday night, one night before the full moon.

Wednsday night: The moon rise was ~1 hour later, but this time it was the full strawberry moon:


Next morning, the chief pancake flipper was hard at work.


Later that day we ran out to Ebensburg for some provisions.
On old US Route 219 there is one of these markers - I like to take pictures of the car near these dumb signs.... just think, a few drops of rain on the other side of the sign go the Gulf of Mexico via the Mississippi River and on this side that rain goes to the Atlantic via the Chesapeake Bay.


Ice Cream at the Pirate's Cove is a perennial favorite enjoyed by many in the area.


After ice cream we headed to the lake for a few minutes in the canoe before sunset.


The next morning we headed back to the vessel for some more canoe time and fishing.
(the fishing is for my daughter, I know nothing about the activity and have no interest in it)


Lunch back at the camp: someone learns to make her own grilled cheese sandwich and is impressed with the results for a picky eater's taste....or lack thereof!


Later that night, we went for a drive. My daughter asked for some twisty roads. Well, we are in luck, there are a few of those around here and with 2 local historic railroad sites trying to get up and over the Allegheny front, lets drive to one for a few photos.

This is the view descending down into to the valley on Veterans Memorial Highway toward Horseshoe Curve.
 
6/14/25 Part 2:
We had Already installed the Canoe back on the Roof as we were planning to leave the next day.


This tunnel goes under the Triple Track that is on the "World Famous" Horseshoe Curve.

That wraps it up, We left Friday morning, and the rain began to fall a few hours after we left.

Next time I hope to be reporting on some AutoX from Carlisle, PA in July.
 
Good stuff man! Making memories That will last a lifetime and that's priceless. But......what's a mountain pie?

I know it is back there, but the thing is so stable and heavy (800#) empty that I don't feel wind resistance, I am sure it is there, but I notice the the mass more than anything. It still rides on the live 7.25" axle and has shocks so it tracks incredible with no bouncing like the cheap light utility trailers from your local big box. I have had it over 90 on the interstate. It is naturally tongue heavy too, so It's balanced well. It dos not matter when there are 2 bikes and a canoe on top and in front of it. It's all sorts of not aerodynamic then. My trip to this place was ~1200' at home then up to ~2600' then up and down again, a few times and then settle back in at ~1400' near the lake. I was running 4th Gear at 3500-4200 RPM most of the time, then on some of the downhills or flats I would shift to 5th until the next grade. Lot's of shift between 4th - 5th. This was not like Driving I70 From Ohio to St Louis, There are hills here!

6/29/25:

Since returning from camping trips and vacation, I began to set the car ready for some possible track days and Auto X.
Tossed on the RPF1's with the 200TW track tires. I also Removed the Brake fluid, Topped the MC off with fresh stuff and did a bit of bleeding at each caliper.

I ran a with a local rally group today as well.


Here are some pics from the rally - all were fast cars, most were faster than mine on the boost etc.
 
Grüne Hölle is ready To head to Carlisle in a day. My trip there is shorter than many of you. Like ~3 Hours for me depending on if I decide to take the interstate toll road or not.
I plan to Run the AutoX Friday Afternoon and Friday Evening.

Thanks yes. That is my 3rd car..
First was the '73 Barracuda
Second was the '79 Volare' / Duster

Got started on it back in ~'98 or '99 in college. Still have it.

I will have some updates when I have computer time.
My home machine cannot work with video.


I got a bunch of stuff to share, but with running events, shows, saving quarter panels off parts cars and othet side jobs it has been busy here.
And real work is set to begin again soon too.
