What is this hole for in my 65 Dart? AC related? Thinking about putting my manual choke through it.
Nope, for 6-cyl throttle linkage.
Chief nailed it. It's the hole for the slant six throttle linkage.
Yeah, the automatic cars had transmission kickdown linkage attached to it.
V8's had cable as well as 6 A/C cars
Yes, that's for the slant six rod throttle linkage.
So i imagine it is a good place to run my manual choke.
Your 65 throttle cable bracket also bolts to the horseshoe bracket below the hole. You can see one of the bolts on the left side.
No! Throttle hole, read above posts.
If he drilled a hole through the plate that now covers the hole, I suppose he could run a choke cable.
I remember seeing that but I didn't think my 66 4 speed car had it. Yep it's there. You can see how far away from the throttle cable.
Yes. Since you're not using that hole, it'd be a great spot to run a choke cable. You'll just have to drill the inner plate also, obviously.
I did read the posts. I don’t have a 6. Or an auto. There is nothing in that hole. My 273 throttle is to the right of it.
I also need to run wires for tach and oil pressure. Seems like a decent place for all those things.
What is that a 1 1/2" hole. Get yourself a rubber grommet or a cap plug. I like grommet's better. They seal better and are quieter.
Got ya then yes it is perfect to run through.
Here is the V8 (and slant with factory AC) gas pedal bracket. The hole in question is behind the large space besides the bottom two holes roughly as I marked
And the smiley face reinforcement on the firewall side keeps you from putting your foot through the floor! LOL
Stumpy, OK, the reason its there on a V8 car is ALL the firewalls are stamped the same, Slant 6 or 273. Then if it was a standard Slant 6 it got a bracket that held that long linkage rod in place. If it was a 273 then it got that foam under the bracket posted in that picture above and the throttle CABLE was routed more left as the V8 was wider. I don't have the link to our favorite Lady building that Hyperpak Valiant Wagon. She is using that hole with the linkage rod.
Exactly. That throttle cable-mount plate looked Rube Goldbergish when I restored it in 1965 Dart w/ 273. Then I got a 1964 Valiant w/ slant six and saw how it began with the rotating rod throttle mount, so the cable plate was a retro-fit to that. Stumpy's car might have a later-year cable throttle fitted to it. I saw an early A in the junkyard like that, obviously a kludged-in setup, probably to retrofit a 318 engine.
My '65 has the original 273 4-sp with an 1405 Edelbrock instead of the original Carter 4-bbl. It has a throttle cable that as far as I can tell it is the original set up.
