1965 MMP's Barracuda Hemi swap! The Ever Changing Build

-
Side note, you live a stones throw from a very good friend of mine.

I agree. The one single thing I didn’t like about your car, (the rest of it is awesome) was the rear ride height. I’d hoped you would address it.
Yea my thought is when I reinstall the rear end I'm only going to install 1 coil over per side hoping to get it to sag a bit and so I can get a better look a it.. before I drop the moneyz on new stuff...

Oh yea how do you know that?

Just started following your build - absolutely Amazing! I'm doing a '64 Cuda/Gen 3/TKO600 swap. I currently have almost all the QA1 K-member, upper/lower control arms installed, and am curious whose rack & pinion did you use? I know I'll need to switch spindles (whose did you use?)
Not to derail thread but I too used HDK (Hemi Denny) from right here on FABO. Great product great guy. Perfect fit.

I recognized the street name from one of your pictures as I was just there a day ago at his place.

I've never had a Stalker before... Am I supposed to stop walking around my house naked now? ... Or More often?
Stalker? Na I got too much crap to do. You can walk around naked more often or less often it makes no difference to me cause I won’t be watchin.

Finished up the fuel system today.
Reinstalled the tank and finished all the lines and fittings. Fuel fill to motor done! Also finished the door handles, and locks.

-Okay back at it..
Got the rear brakes blown apart again and rebuilt and reinstalled; Everything is happy now. Now just need to run a new rear brake line from the master to the rear. Then we can reinstall the rear end and button everything up.

-I've been on the hunt for one of these damn Fresh Air boxes with a good working door to no avail. But my door and box is in good order with exception of the lower hinge has snapped. After being frustrated and not able to find one I resorted to drilling the rivets holding everything together. I have Aluminum rivets to put it back together. just need it tig welded back. I'm an Awesome Welder compared to most kids in 4th grade, but I lack the finesse needed to tig a small thin part such as this. Thankfully I know a guy, so I'll get this welded up and see if I can get it put back together.

I would say a successful welding repair. Part looks good and feels strong, Super excited about it.

-Had a bit of time lastnight and needed to clean up the air box so I took the time and hooked up my new (to me) parts washer
also got my interior hardware kit so I can start putting the dash and other inside bits together.

Got the rearend back in, also plumbed the break line from rear forward forgot to take pictures. It turned out very nice and easily serviceable. So happy about that but forgot to take pictures of the finished lines. Then I decided to look into the rear ride height. So installed only 2 of the 4 rear coilovers and it dropped the rear end about 3"+/- wasn't "bad looking" but too low for me. Then I used a jack an raised it 1.5" and loved it. So currently have coilovers that are at ride height measure 13.5" from pin to pin so if I get a set that are only 12"pin to pin under load we'll be good. BUT I've decided to wait till the car is finish before I do that only cause the once finished it will have it full interior, full tank of gas and have it's finished weight/load. I'd hate to buy a setup that work now only to finish the car and have it sag...

Than I got my steering setup button up and ready to go..

3" lower looks too saggy to me

1.5" lower I like this! The picture doesn't really do it justice. wheel arch edge is just sitting above the top line of the wheel line.

Was able to spend most of the weekend in the garage, family was gone and I was able to putter. I got the car spun back around so I could work on the front of the car. So I buttoned up the last of the brake lines (with exception of the E-brake line lock) and I built a brake light switch mount.
The setup I'm using requires a brake switch that talks to the ECU and transmission. That requires a different style mount and of course the switch is no longer a little one like the stock switch. And now that I have so much going on in this area because the addition of the EPAS and the mod to the brake pedal/ pedal box I am very limited on space. So I had to relocate the switch, and due its size it made it tough. Had to think about this for a few weeks until i turned it around and now i have to switch riding the pedal and I fits perfect!

Hmm...I would worry that with the wiring harness flexing every time you apply the brakes would cause a broken wire at some point. Maybe not soon, but at some point? Just a thought.

So last night I had a bit of time to myself in the garage. I pulled out all the dakota digital stuff I intend on using, and the hotwire harness, as well as the stock harness and contemplated the build of the 3.5 harnesses together. First thought that went through my head was. I'm in over my head... lol I had to leave the garage and go think about it for a minute... It's one of those tough process's I mean I know what I have to do and I'm capable to do It but at that moment it was the question of Where do I start!?! But after a night of sleep I think i have a plan of attack. Now the hardest part is making that first step... :D

Just remember, if you cut the wrong wire, you can always wire nut it back together. :poke: :D

Thanks to another member here @barracudakid I was able to get the needed hardware to mount my speakers. My Radio is a 4 channel setup so I bought the speaker plate off another member here on the site, it was a while ago and sadly I can't remember who i got it from. but it worked perfectly I was able to mount two 3.5" Kenwood 40w speakers. I plan on running two 6x9" speakers in the back to finish up that sound system. Nothing crazy just enough to have tunes while cruising with the family. I have a Dakota Digital hide away antenna ANT-2000/ANT-2 en rute. Not sure at the moment where I'm going to mount it tho.. I also added a bit of sound deadening to the dash to give it that solid none rattle feel.
I think I have a solid plan for my next step (WIRING THIS *****). It's gonna be a slow process, hopefully it won't take too long. finger crossed

Also in my post above #616 I had posted a few pictures of a manual Line lock mounted to my dash. This is going to be my E-brake set up. I have already plumbed in the lines brake lines to under the dash in fact if you in the last two pictures of post #612 you can see them in the back ground behind the brake switch install. I wasn't able to use the stock setup due to the IRS rearend and I couldn't use the jag e-brake setup because it was designed by a drunk 4 year old and it also crashed into the diff mounting plate. SO this line lock was the beat idea I could come up with. And that's exactly the truth i told the wife! ---Pisst I can do burnouts too :D

So had a busy and eventful weekend, Unfortunately I didn't get much done in the garage...
I was able to get fuel sender spliced in to the rear harness and the fuel pump lead run. Tonight I plan on splicing in the fuel pump hot feed into the rear harness plug. I post pic's tomorrow of that. I did get the rear tray mounted, happy with that.

I also did a thing another one of those impulse buy, you know this thread is littered with them.. I'm really happy my wife doesn't read this thread I could be in some real trouble you know so Shussssha!

Well I have been doing some reading and I've been a little tossed about the Engine Masters "hemi shootout" and how they poopooed the early 03-08 hemi vs. the vvt Hemi (eagle heads) and what it comes down to was the early heads just couldn't flow enough and it was carb'd. 2 strikes against it up against an eagle head hemi with vvt. So after doing a ton of reading and really learning anything other than I'm impatient.. I bought a fully rebuilt set of 6.1 heads. These will support a 396 stroker:rolleyes: -and flow a ton... I now have a complete 6.1 top-end, heads, intake, exhaust manifolds... :D

That engine masters episode was an eye opener for sure. The early hemi with a carb manifold was a turd.

I'm sure it would have done better if it had EFi and a good manifold. But how much?? It wasn't a fair comparison and they even said it on the show regardless it was a kick in the sac...

That episode definitely made up my mind. If I’m buying a Hemi for anything, it’ll be 09+. IF I do 03-08 (I’ve got an 06 longblock in my shop now) I’ll put an eagle topend on it.

I'm gonna stay with the 06 block and stroke it to a 392/6 once I've got the build broke in. If you use the 06 long block "IMO" get yourself a set of 6.1 heads better combo. Other wise use a 09 and up block and build from there. Oh and I took your advice and got myself some automotive wire nut just for this build
