1966 Dart GT-it begins

-
Well there have been delays around here but body work progress was made. Body and engine compartment are done as are doors, hood and trunk. Fenders to get work next. Got all my interior parts from Legendary and are “original” color and patterns in red (carpet, door cards, headliner and front seats) got extra carpet since I am deleting the rear seat.

We have decided to go white after seeing it final epoxy in the sun.

It has been a long journey. Family, births, deaths etc….

Been just reconditioning small things and gathering parts. But the pros gave it the once over addressing a couple things and it is in the booth for final sealer and color!

When I get it home I will take panels over and get the body off the rotisserie and begin the fun parts (other than wiring..not looking forward to that!).

Looking great! The rotisserie is the only way to go in my book! I wouldn't do another without it.

Working on redoing the black oxide on hardware. All the bottom stuff first since I should have body back soon and while it is on the rotisserie I want to get as much on as possible. I have all new stainless steel brake lines ready.

What product did you use to coat the hardware?

I had Caswells Black Oxide concentrate in the cabinet from gunwork.

Blasted with aluminum oxide, sprayed and brushed with 99% alcohol (I use a lot of that stuff for various things). Dropped in 1:9 solution with distilled water for about 15 minutes, stirring the hardware around every couple minutes. Distilled water rinse and drop into motor oil to let soak. Blow off excess oil with air compressor and sit in the sun.

I have never done hardware, just gunstuff. I hear that some have heated it to open the pores and get excess out then dip into hot liquified wax to coat and fill the pores, then hang to cool coming back with a hot air gun to heat just enough to drip off excess wax. They claim this lubes the threads when installing (makes sense) and serves as water repellent like an undercoating for those pieces exposed to such thing.

Long response. Sorry.

That looks great! I may have missed it, but what color is that? Also, what paint are you using?
Painter uses PPG. Told him as absolutely bright and pure a white as possible with no pearl or metallic. Will see in person tomorrow when I take all the other panels to him.

The red choice for the interior metal I have to decide on. I have all Legendary resto pieces and vinyl is close but off from carpet and headliner is closer to maroon than the red vinyl.

Talked to @JohnnyMac at Blueprint yesterday so have order motor and parts. Dropping off my 904 at Hughes in Phx on monday. So trying to advance this thing along.

Brought panels home. Get the body in the morning.

Found the DODGE lettering set for the hood at Classic makes both Ds the same but they are each unique regards to post locations. Verified on both of my 66s….

Anyone want to buy a rotisserie haha. Yes will post it correctly. Got a few things accomplished today. Need to trim the trunk mat due to wheel tubs but it has been rolled too long.

Little progress today. Had to organize and clear shelf space since I need to bring the doors and dash home tomorrow. Every part I can hang gets box out of my life.

What a great build, love those wheels, this is going to be a No 1 Show stopper, and quite fast on the track. Thank you for posting all your work, seeing the new style front end being used is a great upgrade, love the small block!! Two thumbs up here in northeast Arkansas

I remember thinking I was crazy after starting the gauge and AC pods, closing the speaker grill and the cowl vents. But now I think it was worth the time.

Shout out of thanks @Johnny Mac and @HemiDenny. Both spent time on the phone with me. Ordered my TTI headers from Denny this morning.

That looks really good. The gas cap looks just like the fresh water fill on my boat.

Well I see @Jim Kueneman is doing it again and showing some of us up! What has he completed three and I still not done?

Waiting on rear brake set so I can set up the rear end and cut the axles. Then mock up to four link and weld when Hughes gets me my transmission to set pinion angle.
