The 1967 'Barracuda', which now has a new style, will include a 'Notchback Coupe', 'Fastback' and 'Convertible'.

For Performance, the 'steady' 273/235 HP 'Commando' will still be available, as will the popular 'Formula S'
performance handling package.

But immediately offered with the 'A-Body' will be a 383/280 HP 'Commando', to compete with the 1967 'Big Engine Pony Cars',
* Camaro SS396 {396/325 HP}
* Mustang GT 390 {390/320 HP}
* Cougar GT 390 {390/320 HP}
* Firebird {400/325 HP}

New Addition;____________________________________________________________________________________________

The 1967 'GTX', which is a new 'Gentleman's Musclecar'. Built off of the Belvedere II 'Hardtop' platform, the 'standard'
engine will be a new 440/375 HP 'Super Commando'.

Also available for the GTX, will be the '426/425 HP 'Street Hemi'.

Note; The 426 'Street Hemi' was only to be available with the 'GTX', but a few 426 'Street Hemi' engines were snuck
into a couple of Belvedere, Belvedere II and Satellite B-Body cars.

Still the Same;___________________________________________________________________________________________

The 1967 Belvedere {Sedan Post}, Belvedere II {Hardtop} and Satellite will all be available with the durable 383/325 HP
'Commando'.

Super Stock Edition;______________________________________________________________________________________

1967 NHRA Super Stock Class of either SS/B or SS/BA.

For 1967 NHRA Competition,

Valiant

The 273/235 HP "Commando' in the new box-style and light A-Body Compact, would fit into E/S or E/SA Stock
Class (11.89 to 12.49 Wt/Hp) Bracket.

Barracuda 'Fastback'

The 273/235 HP 'Commando' would fit into the F/S or F/SA Stock Class (12.50 - 13.99 Wt/Hp) Bracket.

The 'new' 383/280 HP 'Commando' would fit into the D/S or D/SA Stock Class (11.30 - 11.88 Wt/Hp) Bracket.

GTX

The 'GTX' 440/375 HP 'Super Commando' would fit into the B/S or B/SA Stock Class (9.50 - 10.59 Wt/Hp) Bracket,
or into the SS/E or SS/EA Super/Stock Class (9.50 and up Wt/Hp) Bracket.

The 'GTX' 426/425 HP 'Street Hemi' would fit into the SS/B or SS/BA Class (7.00 - 7.69 Wt/Hp) Bracket.

Note; Originally (November 1966) the NHRA was going to permit the 1967 'GTX' 426/425 HP 'Street Hemi' to qualify
for the A/S or A/SA Stock Class in 1967, but the NHRA changed the Weight Brackets for 1967, and would not permit
the 426 Street Hemi to compete 'Stock Class'.

Belvedere II or Satellite

The 'tried-and-true' 383/325 HP 'Commando', which was still regarded as a durable and useful 'Street Machine', was
found classed in the C/S or C/SA Stock Class (10.60 - 11.29 Wt/Hp) Bracket.

In 1967,

Plymouth was 'stuck' between the 'more expensive 'GTX 440', and the
low-priced 'street minded' 67' Belvedere and Satellite 383/325 HP.

The 383/325 HP was adequate for a 'general purpose' street car, but the
1967 #3450 lb. Belvedere or Satellite 'struck' no fear on the Street or Drag Strip,
as in Stock Form it lumbered down the 'Quarter-Mile' in 15.75 @ 92 MPH

Only available with the 'standard' 3.23 Gear-Ratio or 'Factory Optional' 3.55 Gear-ratio.

And, it lacked 'Flash and Power' with the young and fast-growing Musclecar Gearheads
who wanted a 'stripped down' street car, without the 'bells and whistles' of the
dressed up and bulkier 'GTX 440' which weighed in at #3604 lbs.

'Plymouth is out to win you over'

The GTX '426 Street Hemi' was marketed for NHRA A/S 'Stock Class'.

Note; The NHRA 'pulled the rug' out from under Plymouth in November 1966,
and would 'not' sanction the 'Street Hemi' for A/S Class for the 1967 NHRA
Racing Season.

Dave Kempton later changed his mind.

Tony-Toe,

Difficult to get the exact numbers on the 383/325 HP 'H-Code' Satellite.

Probably around
* Hardtop............ 6000
* Convertible......... 450

Very cool info here, thanks for sharing.
Kinda explains how the Road Runner came to be in 1968, it was out of necessity because of the void that Plymouth needed to fill......and fast!
That's why it was a great seller.

Dart Nut,

The Road Runner was a much needed mid-size Musclecar for Plymouth.

Though, the 383 was still over-rated in the Horsepower Arena, and everybody
knew it.

1967 + 383/325 HP = 'Dog'

Mopar would have been better off with continuing the 426-S 'Street-Wedge' in
1966 and 1967.

I'll take the blonde in the center.
