I have a small stable of Big Block Darts and my 68 Convertible is an older restoration of about 30 years ago. My friend in Daytona new of the car for at least 30 years and a couple of years ago it came up for sale and I purchased it. When it was restored the full quarters were replaced and the radiator support was replaced. NOM engine and trans. Correct Vin and definitely original Fender tag. My question is where are there any other body/frame numbers to verify authenticity? Two of my other BB darts have their original sheet metal and NO number stamped on quarters under trunk rubber.
Where do I look?

The only numbers on the body of a 68 dart are on the radiator support usually under the antifreeze label on the driver's side plus on the trunk gutter under the seal on the drivers side about eight inches up.

So far as I know, this started in 69. The 68/ earlier has I forget what it's called "order number?" on the radiator support, my understanding is if you have the original VIN, order no. and build sheet you can "hook them together" or along those lines.

We had a member here who had bought a 68 with the dash removed and gone, and "I guess" a state issued VIN. "You are screwed." So far as I know, you have no way to tie your VIN "for sure" to that car body.

As said, hidden vin stamping started in 69. prior to that it was the SO Number. If you have the build sheet it will have both the SO Number and VIN on it. The SO Number is also on the fender tag.
The normal place to find these numbers are on the left upper side of the core support under antifreeze sticker. The other is on the left rear quarter panel/deck lid lip seal about midway up. Sometime they are impacted with paint and not able to be read. The stamps are pressed hard and you should be able to see it from under the lip as well or scrape the paint away.

For your 68, as far as I know, that is what you have to go by.
