You are probably going to kill me, but why not route the fuel line the correct way ?
Here is a pic to give you an idea of the correct places for hoses,fuel lines etc..

You have put so much effort into the car, just trying to help you get it right.

Also the strap you have the fuel line going through is for the heater hoses. There should be a hole on the fender,just above the shock for the heater hose strap. There is also a bracket that bolts to the motor to hold the heater hosses. These can be had on e-bay etc for around $10.00.

If you want it I have the correct steel line coming off the carb for your car. Then you can hook your steel braid hose to it.

The fuel will stay cooler where he has the line routed now. That plastic strap wouldn't suit me. A metal strap with rubber linner would be worth the 2 bucks.
 
Is there an EGR blocking plate made that I can buy and bolt onto the intake manifold. I want to take off the unsightly EGR from the drivers side on the manifold. We removed the Vaccuum Amplifier and all the hoses which has further enhanced the appearance of the engine by uncluttering the bay area. My neighbor who is a certified mechanic came over and checked the engine with a timing light and we'll adjust it and the carb this week as time allows.
 

These are the 14X7 Cragar S/S rims we picked up off E-Bay this past week. They have no curb rash and no rust at all! We got them for $305 and am quite pleased with the deal. We even got lug nuts for all the wheels but ten of the lugs are left hand turn since they came off a 1966 Belvedere. My first car, a 1969 Dodge Polara, also had left hand turn lugs on the drivers side when I drove it back in 1979. I nearly broke the first lug off while trying to take the wheels off when I first bought that car and put aluminum slots on it.
We hope to get these Cragars mounted Monday and I'll be sure to post a picture of them on the car.
Over the weekend we hope to adjust the carb and set the timing better as well.

If you think thats the proper way to run your fuel line ,than go for it !

Today we mounted the front drivers side marker light/lense and also the fender monuted turn signal indicator. I want to thank Joe for sending these to us, they will help us pass the Texas vehicle safety inspection.
We also waxed our Cragar S/S rims in preperation to have them mounted this week. I mentioned them in an earlier post but forgot to attach the pictures. We hope to have some pictures this week of the car with the wheels mounted. Should add some "bling" to the vehicle and we think the added chrome will further set-off the Avacado Green paint color.
I have a question concerning the front seat. If we choose to replace the bench with buckets, does anyone have any recommendations as to a make or manufacture?

Well today we got the Cragars mounted, much to my sons delight! I have to say, I liked the ralleye's but the S/S's realy set off the car. We used the same tires, (205-70X14 front and 225-70X14 rear) that were on the ralleye's and they fit great. I think since the rims are 7 inches wide, rather than the 5.5 stock, they make the tires appear "fatter" which enhances the looks. Even the neighbors commented on the cars improved looks. I'm sure once he starts driving to school once he's 16, he'll get plenty more comments as well.
Another plus was finally getting the passenger door to open today. There was a large piece of some hard, off-white plastic stuck in the latch mechanism which prevented in from opening all the way. My son has been poking at the latch area through the doors interior with the door panel removed and finally got it open, then we pried the piece of plastic out and now it opens and shuts just fine. We're guessing it has not been opened in a very long time because of the dirt, crud, wood screws and change we found in the door jam once we opened the door.
Now I have a question for anyone to answer. We want to put reproduction square exhaust tips, (duals) on the car. What is the original diameter of the exhaust pipe running to the rear where the tips will be?

Yeah the Cragars do make a huge difference! I believe we will put the car in a car show in two weeks. Probably in an "under Construction" class or something comparable. Hard to believe that its only been 7 months since we picked up the car for $1,000 from the original owner here in central Texas and we've been able to accomplish what we have so far with some elbow grease and TLC. These pictures show the car when we found her in a front yard in the country.

Tonight we decided to put the interior back into the car for the time being since we plan to enter the car in this weekends car show at the local Dodge dealership. The door panels had not been mounted since we bought the car with them in the trunk. Almost all the clips were still there. They cleaned up nicely with just a wet towel as did the arm rests, window cranks, and handles. Sure makes the interior look better. Plans eventually call for new headliner, rear deck, dash cap, carpet, recovered back seat and hopefully buckets for the front will be found eventually.

Tonight we mounted the eblems to the drivers side of the car. We also vaccumed and wiped out the car as best as possible for the first time. Up till now all we've really concentrated on was the engine bay and outside. As you all can see, the carpet looks more tan than black. Since we are going to try and put the car in a show this Saturday, we wanted to cleaned her up as best as possible. However the inside will be just about last on our "to-do" list for this car. But if the odd interior part is found along the way of our fix-up, we will surely get it for installation later.
Our neighbor came over tonight with his timing gun and we set the timing about 4 degree's positive rather than the few degree's negative and that really helped the acceleration from a dead stop. Now we need to adjust the carb to help the stumble/light backfire we get at about 20-25mph when we accelerate. I'm sure some good hightest gas wouldn't hurt either.

Well today my son participated in his first car show at the age of 14. He didn't get to drive the car there and home, but he did get to talk to fellow MOPAR enthusiast, especially one gentleman that was 4 cars away that had bought his 1970 Dart GT the day he got back from Vietnam and has owned it ever since. I will post pictures of this car and some other MOPAR's shortly on this thread. While we didn't win any trophies, my son still had a great time and I feel really started to appriciate the car he has in relation to others in the car culture.
We put together a display board in front of the car. I had 4 pictures of the car the day we found it for sale, and in need of some serious TLC. We also had one sheet that told what we had done and still had planned to do. The third sheet had some fun and interesting facts from 1974. The board drew quite a bit of attention and numerous people commented on when they had either owned or seen a car like my sons, back in the day. I can say that one particular point of interest was the cars color, (Avacado Gold Poly) and that it was the original paint. Many people commented on that.
Next to us was a 1969 Super Bee that had a 440 w/ a 8-71 blower which drew quite a bit of attention. We spent the afternoon walking around and talking to people. The blond lady between my two sons is "Trippin Dawn" a local rock-radio personality that lives down the street from us that posed with the boys for a picture. The boys enjoyed the free food, drinks, and hats and shirts they got for being "car entrents" for the show.
The pictures of the engine were taken because we removed all the emissions hoses and painted up the dip stick handle, master brake cover and some other pieces last night before the show. Enjoy the pics, I'll have more tomorrow of other MOPARS that were at the show.

OK, here are more pictures from the car show. First we'll start with the 1970 Dart GT owned by a gentleman since new. He said he returned from Vietnam on a Friday and bought this car on Saturday and has had it ever since. Thats the original window sticker. It was actually ordered by someone else but he ended up with it. It's a 340 with factory A/C. Notice the $3949 price on the window sticker! A very nice car and an even nicer gentleman. I wrote down this sites web address and gave it to him so hopefully he will be on here soon. He did admit to not being too computer savy however so we'll wait and see. His trunk had many trophies in it as well.
The 1970 Challenger took best MOPAR and Peoples favorite for the day. This car had a 383 w/pistol grip shifter. It appeared stock but sure had a cam-lope to it that made it sound wicked as well as looking great. I was able to snap some pictures on the rare moment that there were not a million people standing around the new and old Challengers parked side by side. Enjoy the pictures.

I forgot these last three pictures from the show. I believe the dealership owner, owned the Viper and SRT-10 pick-up. The red car next to ours was a Plymouth Belvedere. There was the white Caddy and the yellow Road Runner. The purple 383 Road Runner came late but I always liked these bodied cars and fell for this one as well. We hope to get a few more shows in this summer.

We were sent this picture from the Dodge Dealership today, (Dodge Country in Killeen) which one of their employee's took. That's my son standing with his arms crossed at the back of the car and that's yours truely wearing the Grateful Dead tye-dye beside him. Yeah, my 14 year old is already my size! I apologize ahead of time for my wife in the background looking at the Chevy trucks engine bay, but that engine was soooo clean you could eat off of it and the engine block was painted the same color as the body, very sharp indeed. I believe when this was taken I was talking with another fellow platoon sergeant from my unit and his family that was there just to see our car and vote on it, good people.

I will say that the Cragars really do justice with your car. The engine bay is looking good also. Keep up the good work. Some day soon you will have everything as you want it.
