I purchased a 1981 318 smog motor to supply parts for another project.
When I opened this motor up I found some nice parts and the inside was in good shape.
I changed the timing chain, oil pump, lifters, freeze plugs, and had the heads worked over and put it back together after degreasing and painting everything.
Now I have a nice motor and nothing to put it in. The wife isn't going to like the solution to this problem.

Video of first start. (I didn't have the PCV hooked to the carb yet.)

sounds great.

that red 71 swinger in the background looks great too.

that is a good catch by decoding the numbers and finding out what you have there.

Cheap is great!!!!!
What bell housing are you using on the start stand?
I have a nice start stand for SBM and BBM.
I would move the gas tank in front of the radiator in case of a belt / balancer / pully issue.
Still nice video.

The bell housing is just the front end cut off of a dead 727 transmission. I just took the sawzall to it so I could have a rear support and a starter mount. I couldn't find a test stand for Mopar so I made this one.

Good eye on the '71 Dart. That is supposed to be my current project. I am building a very strong 360 for it but these other motors that I buy for parts, this is the second one, have little or nothing wrong with them and I end up making them run and flipping them.
The Dart needs some love soon.

That would be a great motor for the 72 Swinger in the background.

The '71 Dart came with a 318 in it so this would be a very easy replacement. That would leave me with a very strong 360 and nothing to put it in. I still have the matching number 318 from the Dart and it runs, although on only six cylinders. Non hardened valve seats and unleaded gas I suspect. I will rebuild the original motor and if I sell the Dart, it can go with as a spare with the matching numbers.

Need to change the title of your video... "Interceptor" is a Ford term. Chrysler used "Pursuit."

Good to know. I was repeating what my machinist said. He was pretty excited about this engine.
(I kind of had to pry the heads out of his hands to get them back.)
