1986 318, roller or hydro

'85+ 318s- roller blocks, in trucks and cop cars likely to be flat tappet cam. It's likely when you pull the intake you'll see the bosses tapped for the spiders but no spiders and no roller cam/lifters. With 360s they didn't tap the galleys until they went to TBI I'm pretty sure of. Even '88 and '89 many of the police cars didn't have roller cams, though all TBI trucks came with roller cams.

Even TBI trucks don't need a roller cam in them to run- and being work/utility vehicles often it's not at all uncommon to see them have engines replaced- often with older motors in better shape than the couple hundred thousand mile motors that came out of them.

From some of the period doucmentation I've seen, it seems like the compression bump came from using different pistons in '85-up motors and applies to 2bbl and 4bbl 318s, and is technically unrelated to the roller cam gear even though it came with the new block's implementation.
