1986 Dodge omni GLH for sale ???

hi guys ! i spotted a nice blue dodge omni glh for sale here in montreal , its as its original engine and tranny , the owner said it was for sale , he wants me to go take a look at it .. he changed the turbo for a bigger one .

NEW PARTS :

-as aries k front disc brakes
-Daytona Z front seats
-the car is complete and the side skirt are 100%
-new exhaust with borla exhaust

BAD PART IS :

-the car didnt move or start since 2 or 3 years
-the engine smoke the last time he started it ..
-he invested 12 000 $ 10 years ago , but how much it is worth ???


so this is it , i dont know nothing at all about GLH Omnis ... the only thing i know is that they were powerfull little cars , but are they verry expensive to buy ,, and are they good daily drivers .. and what can i check or ask before talking about price , On the phone he said i wont sell it to you not even 5 000 $ its not worth that , but i have to let it go before winter i need some room this year ..

should i save it or forget about it ??

ok,now did you say $5000 for it?IMHO,its not worth that much.Looks like its got the much desired Sante Fe Blue paint and Pumper Wheels!I have a 86 GLH that Ive been driving for 6 yrs now,daily and its been a pretty reliable car and great gas mileage,not to mention its pretty quick.When I bought mine,it needed a head gasket,but I bought it at an auction for $50:cheersyes, $50)
The 2.2s are pretty stout little motors.Ive ran the hell out of mine and it wont quit!I rebuilt it to stock ,but added a few little things.The smoke could be a leaky head gasket.On mine,just adding little stuff like bigger injectors,a MP Logic Module,K&N filter,and manual boost adjusting valve gave it some good oomph!Heres some links that show some performance tips and mods

if real nice 2000 if rusty 1000 not that great of a car L body stuff is only for glh and rampage. all other k car stuff interchanges. daytona ,shadows and minis will swap parts. my friend has a shadow vert this car is beyon mint and he can,t get 3000 grand for.but like your a bodys someday they will go up.

The GLH came with the 150 HP turbo 1 motor. Not a bad little performer in its day but nothing special by todays standards. These cars were pretty crude but reasonably reliable. Unless other changes were made putting a bigger turbo on it would have made little or no improvement and may have added lag to the turbo spooling up. As with any turbo motor eliminating back pressure down stream of the turbo will always help so the exhaust will improve power some.

For $12k to have been invested in it I would expect the car to have the full Super 60 treatment plus a lot of other items and a full cosmetic maker over. The S60 consisted of the bigger turbo, injectors, cam, performanced tuned computer and an intercooler. The S60 kit would have gotten the engine to 300 HP.

Aries disk brakes aren't an upgrade. With 12K invested I would have expected the 4whl disk setup from an 89+ Shelby Daytona or IROC R/T to be installed plus aftermarket suspension upgrades. The picture does shows a car with the 16" pumper wheels from an 89+ Shelby Daytona.

The plus side of the turbo mopars from this era is that it was real easy to increase the boost well up in the 20 psi range and make big power that would propel them into the 10's. But they didn't last long like that, some of the 4cyl turbo guys would replace the head gasket after almost every trip to the track.

These cars do have a nitch following but it is the Shelby GLHS Omni that has collector value. Unless you can verify that some of the other upgrades I mentioned were made I would say $500 to $2k depending on the over all condition. If it has the full S60 treatment, suspension upgrades and more much better brakes and is in real good overall shape it would be worth $2k-$4k.

FWIW, I have owned a turbo 4cyl mopar continiously since I purchased my first new one in 1985. I currently have a stock 03 PT Cruiser GT turbo that will run circles around all but the highly modified turbo 2.2 cars. You can find nice examples of these cars (or Neon SRT4's) in the $5-$6k range and will be a far better daily driver.

What do you think its worth ????? saw car car s exterior carefully for 10-15 min its badly rusted out , i still have to go see the owner this week but i think its too much too restore this poor thing !! btw lave-auto is for car wash in french !

That body is shot.....how hard is it to get panels??? The closest thing we got here to that is the Mitsubishi Colt. The front of that car reminds me of a Holden Gemini...TG model....had plastic bumpers.

I totally agree, I loved my 86 GLH but my 07 GT cruiser is a much nicer vehicle and with the stage 1 it will smoke a lot of vehicles that cost considerably more than the 7k that I paid for it. Its loaded with options and only has 41k miles.
