i have a 1968 plymouth valiant , we did a tune up on this , my unckle helped me on it to make sure it was right , hes a macanic for 30 years . the choke was set to only open a little witch gave me crapy mpg , so we pit all new every thing on it , as for a tune up would go , cap , wires , plugs , condenser, rotor , points , coil , fule pump , ect . re timed it to not be so retarted , . but now the only way i can get it to not die on take off is to choke it , then when its going , i can take the choke off. is this a carb thing , or is there somthing i can do ? and im wanting to put a 2b carb on it any way , but i think this might make it worse , will it ?

Been there dont that. New points, cap, rotor, for a 40 yr. old distibuter is a waste of time and money. Lesson I learned the hard way.
A rebuilt distributer was like dipping the old car in the founain of youth.

The way it'll only take off with the choke on makes me think it's a lean bog. The usual cause of this is a problem with the accelerator pump. Make sure it's giving you a good squirt as soon as the throttle starts moving - you can check this with the engine off, looking down the carb throat.

Yep, Deteriorating accelerater pumps was a big issue for Chrysler when unleaded fuel was introduced.

I agree, sounds like a bad accelerator pump in the carb. On a "daily driver" lead substitute is not needed. Actually unleaded gas will not hurt a carb. Ethonal in the gas will do more damage, but E-10 should not be a concern, unless the carb is ready for some work, anyway.

ok so , should i be putting led sub in this as well ?

Slant sixes don't need lead substitute at all. They'll happily run on octane far worse than anything you can buy here in the US, and they don't have any issues with valve seat recession.

I have the same problem dont feel alone, i as well have 68 plymouth valaint

is there any car or truck out there that has a 2 barrel intake on it i been junk yard to junk yard . and i cant find one . if there is one what would it be on ?

2 bbl manifold viechles: aspens,diplomats,volares, 76-up, vans,trucks from 76 on had 2bbl manifolds i believe. 2bbl carbs can be found on 318 v-8 chryslers.

Just about every van made from '71-early '80s will have a 2-bbl carb. Heck most Mopars from '73-'84!

But if you want to use the stock choke (many people switch to manual choke), you need a super six carb. There are a few other minor differences between the slant six and V8 carbs.

i ment for the 225 slant six . not the 318 or any v8 . i cant find any 225 slant sixes with a 2 barral carb and intake. thats what im looking for so i can save a tone of money , instead of buying a new one .
