Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. After a while searching on here I just figured I would ask.

I'm looking at a 235/60/15 tires for the back of my 74 Valiant 4 door (large bolt pattern, 8 1/4 rear). I was wondering if tires that size would fit without any rubbing on these Cragar wheels.

They are 15x7 with 3.75" backspacing. I see a lot of people running 4 or 4.5" backspacing but I was unsure if 235's would fit ok with these. Can someone help and give me an answer? It'd be much appreciated.

Here's a pic of my car.

And here is the reason for the upgraded rear tires. A Magnum 408. ( Just finishing up the swap )

I had 235-60R14's on 14x7's with a 3 1/2" backspace. They didn't rub on those wheels, but the wider wheel may cause issues. I have 245-40R18's on the back now, mounted on an 18x8 with 4 1/2" backspace and they don't rub inside or outside.

nice car. the four door will surprise a few people when you get on that 408. as for the wheels im not sure. i have 14x7 magnums on my 75 scamp with 235/65-14 and they are really close the the outside lip. but i am unsure of the backspacing. i believe they were 4 inch though.

My '73 Dart had 15 X 7's with 3.5 backspace and 235/60R15's on it when I bought it, and they were rubbing in corners. I think you'd be much happier with 4" BS or 225 width.

Frog, so they were rubbing where? On outside or inside toward the springs? Sorry didn't get what you meant by corners.

Sorry, they were lightly rubbing the fender when you took the car through a corner that would induce body roll. They might have been OK with a little inner lip trim and / or roll. Does that make more sense?

I am going to put 235's back on it, but on 15 x 7's with 4.25 backspace. I may even try 245's.

Got it. Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe I'll have to scrap the idea of those Cragars and find something else with 4.25 backspacing.

Edit:

Okay so maybe I was asking the wrong question. I want to run 235/60/15 Mickey Thompson Street ET's. What wheel width/back spacing should I be looking for that will let them fit without any rubbing? Thanks again for any help.

Funny, I was just thinking about those Cragar's in 16 in., with Firehawks or Eagles. The problem there was they were 255/60 R16's. I have seen as wide as 245's on stock wheels, and there is a stock (not tubbed) Demon around here with 295's, but they were scuffed.

15X7 w/4.25 or 4.5" backspacing is what your going to need.
