just starting slant 6 to a 273 V8...I would like to know the engine color in 1965?

The engine color for 1965 was Chrysler Red. Thats the only small block paint there is.

Yes Chrysler Industrial Red,
in a pinch International Harvester red will be close.

I did some touch up on my 1964 273 in 1970 and could not find a good match with all of the supposed matching engine paints available. It turned out that International Harvester red was almost a perfect match. It's the closest to what the factory used that I have seen.
