302 casting on a set of 318 heads

The O/D would drop the RPMs some more, but I am still wondering the RPM difference between that one and an A904 lockup. I will ask the guy you mentioned. We will be running 3.73s in the *** end, so an O/D might be better. Pros and cons though. A904 is straight bolt in. A500 i have to mod the crossmember.

The stock 904 lock up will drop engine rpm about 200 rpm but the gear set is a 2:45 low gear like a normal early 904. The A500 uses a low gear set with a 2:74 low gear.
I built my A998 lock up with wide ratio gear set to get best of both , low end torque with 2: 94 rear gears ( pulls out like 3:23) and has lock up in high gear at 1to 1 ratio.

So my Q's is do I need a stock set of rockers & push rods for them heads ? Or can I use a 273 adjustable set ? Also what about head gaskets ?

I think stock stuff should work. Always best to check everything when you assemble but......

Here's the Pics, just got back from super.

There you go. Hello from Minnesota, hope all is well in Hawaii.
George Jets . . .

YOU CAN use the 273 rockers and pushrods
I'd use the EQ heads but compression may vary
any head gasket including the .028 Mr gasket
may be hard to find small bore head gaskets IDK

Too bad the heads @George Jets pictured above aren't available right now from Rock Auto. Those look nice!

I have a brand new pair of 302s here at my shop that I bought a year ago knowing that they might go out of stock. Sure Glad I did, thinking ahead.
I should hang onto these. Got a few 318s with 340 cams that will be going together with them.

1970 318, with 340 Cam, 302 heads are on the shelf.

302 and 714 Heads, same same.

The only thing I would use that cam on in a 273/318 or any Mopar today is as a core for a regrind 50 year old design with really long ramps, no lift
what's not to like

Beautiful duster George! Any runtime on those heads?

Thanks, that is my Buddy Brian's Duster
Runtime on the 302 Heads are on their 2nd year now, running out perfect, no cracks, no antifreeze leaks, no head gasket leaks, Just Perfect !

Swapped out the New Single Valve Springs, for the Stock 340 double spring set after the new Mopar Performance 340 Cam was broke in.
Great Idle, Great Overall performance start to finish, No Boggs, Just Runs !

Just can't say enough good things about a properly worked 318 combination. Done right, you'll never know the difference between one and a mild 340 build.

What's the nose over on the flow on a set of 302s? When do they run out out of steam rpm wise? Do you have to port the snot out of em, or just clean em up a little bit ? Is a set of engine quest magnums better:poke:

302 heads are better on the 318. They have improved port flow design over stock 318 heads of the 70s. Bolt right on to the LA 318s and intakes, Run great with Factory Mopar valve train.

Here is Brian's Quote on how many rpms it will go and still keep pulling:

"I ran mine to 5000 rpm and it was still pulling great, Ran out of room on the road. My guess it would have made 6000 rpm and still pulled some or floated."
