With any spacer regardless what it's made of, If before installing you will take the time to cut the vertical sides like VVVVVVVV you'll nearly triple the exposed surface area and get more heat sink like performance from it.
The phenolic resin spacers are great indeed but a waste in a way because that one gasket will do the trick. If you have spare paper gaskets, the. A spacer is an OK purchase and useable part. Otherwise, I would not bother.
