I've got a 318 in my '75 dart and am in the process of installing Hedman headers. I'm having trouble around the starter and wondering if I'd be better off with a mini starter? Would like to avoid it because I've heard they don't last. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated? Please hurry, I'm dying to drive it. Forgot, is there a way to get out of pulling the steering column? I'm starting to get aggravated and I know that's the last thing I want to do!! The passenger's side went in fine but the driver's side has turned this into a catastrophe with my limited knowledge. She's gone from my baby to my stepchild to my ex-wife as far as my attitude goes: I love her but I'm getting frustrated.

Yes...the mini starter gives you more room.....my 99 dodge ram came with a mini starter it lasted 18 yrs......

I got them on every car I have with headers .....
 
More room, alright, but here's the thing........these headers were designed a long long time ago. They SHOULD fit the old style starter

Having said that, at the price of a mini starter, it's a cheap upgrade. It's a no lose deal
 
Put a mini Dakota starter on my 273 without headers and it has worked great for years.
 
Unless you have a set of CPPA headers like I do on my 69 Dart. Believe it or not they would not work with a mini starter and I had to use an original big starter. Or use an expensive clockable mini starter.
 
The mini starter will last just fine as long as you don't get a cheap POS. Get a new Chrysler starter.
 
I've used hedmans with the regular starter no problem. Yes, the mini starter is better....

I don't know what *** has been whispering in your ear but stay away from that clown!!!!

The starter in from my '00 Magnum starts that engine up every day in about 1 to 1/2 heart beat.

They don't last .... ROTFLMAO!!!!!

Yeah the Hookers fit my 72 scamp with the original style starter no problemo. I doubt the hedmans are any different.

I didn't bother with the smaller starter. The big one works fine. Cranks extremely hard. And besides. I love the sound it makes. Nothing better than waking up the neighbours with that starter and following it up with the exhaust!
