has anyone heard of 318 hp heads?
these heads have 318 HP stamped on them. I was wondering if someone stamped it on there or are they from the factory?
thanks for your input

How many times are you going to ask this question over and over. I count 3 times in two threads you started.

Nope, never heard of them. Must be rare. Definitely worth lots of your money.

The 318 was never a high performance engine in factory form. Except perhaps the factory 4 bbl cop motors made in the 80's and they had 360 heads.

I am trying to find out information on the heads that I have and I thought this was the place to do it.
I was told it was from an early A body
Then I saw the small block tech and decided that is where this question should go so please forgive me in my search for answers

You still haven't answered mine....What is the casting number?

Thanks, Mark

Couldn't be from an early A (pre '67) since 318 LA engines didn't come out until '67. Anything stamped is perforce el toro poo poo and was added by a tinkerer since MaMopar didn't do that. All factory markings were cast into the head. What numbers are cast in the head surface under the valve cover?

What's the casting number?
Mark
the number on the heads are 2858920-8 or 2658920-6 my eyes are kind of fuzzy.
the other number is 12136
thanks for your help.
from what is on here so far it seems that I was lied to by a "mopar guru" and was ripped off.

I think those are 1967 273/318 heads. The offer a little more performance than other 318 heads (other than the 302s) because they have closed chambers and offer higher compression.

Yes those are 67 273/318 heads. They do have a smaller chamber but the vavle are really small at 1.75 intake and 1.50 exhaust. Not really good for performance.

Pocket port them and add 1.88 - 1.60 valves. They'll perform well for you then.

Thanks to all for your input. From what has been said they are better than the heads I had. Now I don't feel that I got ripped off.
Thanks again for all your input and setting me straight.

Those are '66-7 273 and '67 318 castings. Unless you're doing a factory restoration, they wouldn't be my first (or 4th) choice. In my opinion, these are the drawbacks using pump gas....
Crack prone in exhaust seat area and outside below plugs
Soft seats
Close chambered detonation problem
Not the best flowing in stock configuration

If you're going to work them over for race, and you're going to use high octane fuel, The detonation won't be a problem but you can add the problem with finding decent high compression piston to match the chamber so you have good flame travel. The original 273 4bbl's had those odd angle-topped ones for that reason. Try to find that design today! By the time you install hard seats, bigger valves, and port work, you might as well have bought some aftermarket aluminum ones. A better option cast iron head would be the 302 castings, which have hard seats, slightly bigger ports, and a swirl design flow so they can get away with being a closed chamber head because of the better flame travel and flow. Using 360 heads and manifolds is also a good option for a 318.
Thanks, Mark

I put cast # 302 heads on my 318, had them milled just enough
to clean them up so the gaskets would seal good.

I had them rebuilt at the local Napa machine shop,
and had the exhaust/air injection ports plugged.

What ever heads you use, I would suggest take them to a good
machine shop to get checked out. Use brass frost plugs too. ;)

I am using the 273 heads on my 318 in the Dart.
I ported the heads to 340 gaskit matching and grinded the compression side 0.06". They are doing very well in combination with a 500 Ede carb.
