My 73 318 will start but almost immediately dies. I've changed out carbs, coil, plugs, fuel filter, ignition box, ballast resistor and a few other parts. I was thinking the ignition switch is bad, but its keeping the coil powered in the on position. This is driving me nuts, any suggestions?

I have seen where you can get 12 volts at a terminal but the current carrying capacity does not allow the device to work. Try doing a jumper wire from the coil directly to the battery and see if it continues to run. You could have a bad connection or even the ignition switch itself.

hot wire the coil + to the Batt + and start it. see if it dies.......That'll bypass the ignition switch.

There is a white ceramic box mounted with coil. It is electric choke assist. When it goes bad it can rob current from everything else trying to run on the same single switched 12-volt wire in the engine bay. So if it is still there, unplug it. EPA wanted it but you dont need it. Choke still works without the assist.
