Well I got kicked out of one of the latest 318 threads. As usual they ganged up on and attacked me for stating the obvious, said I was a dick and thecmid said " I should show your deleted posts" why have a delete button then ? As far as 318s,I cant understand why someone who doesnt want to lay out $$$ for a good starting point in a 340/ 360 would spend the $$$ that it takes modding a 318 then gloat like its something special. Thats all. Oh and get a sense of humor and learn to detect sarcasm...

If I had a 318, I would not hesitate to build one. Why spend the money I don't have to? I used to scrap 360s after I took the heads, exhaust manifolds, and 727's they came with. I sold off all the special 360s I had 30-40 years ago. I personally don't like them. I like 340's, but they are not required to go fast. What do a pair of cast iron 360 heads go for today? The heads are the key to going fast. The rest are parts you would change or add anyway.

Not trying to start trouble just letting it be known that some here are guilty of what they persecute, its one sided. :)

But the thing is none of you wan to hear it...
Take a LA 318 put a Holley on it it does nothing but drink gas
Put a cam in it with the factory heads it does nothing
put headers and duals on a 318 it does next to nothing
then you need to get out the checkbook don't you? to buy specialty pistons and heads etc? make it a "stroker?"
but the price of a 340 or 360 is off the table? c'mon. man...

but yet you'll ask "what can i do with a 318 to make power..."but you don't want to hear it...its just odd to me...

maybe the word "Power" is misunderstood?

and da de da de da de that's all folks...:thankyou:

I guess you missed my post about going 13.50 @102 with a LA teen in a 72 Demon. NONE of the parts were a good match including the torque converter (stock)....it had 360 heads on it that had some port work but you know what a 360 head does to a teen, right? The tired teen had a bit over 100k miles on it too. Funny how I've done smaller engines with an intake, carb and header change and it responded very well. What you said makes me think you really don't know how to make an engine run well with bolt on mods.....especially if it's a teen?

You 318 folks sure are in a class by yourself...
Even a /6 can be made to go fast.....or do you hate those too? As for Fox bodies, in the early to mid 90's a stocker was usually good for low 15's and so was a 5.2 Dakota reg cab short box. Wait, a 5.2 is.....freaking teen! Dayam!

I don't hate anything.

No. You're in the class by yourself and all the other 318 haters. We're supposed to be MOPAR guys and gals and respect MOPARS. I've never seen another brand's people piss all over other peoples' choices like some do with the 273, 318 and the slant 6. It beats all.

I would kind of expect a simular response if we went on a Camaro forum and asked about hopping up a 307 because we cant afford a 350 block. But hey, I'll build ANYTHING if I'm getting paid!

Amen to that !

One of the best engines I ever ran was a 318 with 360 J heads, a themoquad cast intake with a quadrajet...LOL. It was in a 67 fastback Barracuda with a 411 Dana three speed manual on the floor. It was a real Frankenstein with the small lug chrome reverse baby moons and Hoosier 60's raised white letter tires. We used to drive the **** out of that car back in the late 70's. I never could blow that damn teener up. I eventually sold the car to go to college and lost track of it. I would love to have it again.

I don't care what people build for their car, put a turbo 2.2l in it for all I care, as long the OP's have a reasonable understanding of the Pro's and Con's and what their asking has a reasonable chance of being accomplished then it's up to them. But some feel the need over exaggerate the con's and strawman people arguments to get people to do what makes sense for them, which Is bullshit, If people were reasonable with their Con arguments and when the OP makes it obvious that they want to build what they want, then there wouldn't be a need for half these debates.

My first car had a poly teen and when I started looking for performance parts, they were high! Ended up with a 383 in the car when the time came to remove the really tired poly.

I don’t understand the 318 abuse really .
The block is almost identical to a 340,,,I know,,,,there are several differences,,but still very close . They can easily be upgraded for more strength and durability .
The bores are only .130 “ smaller,,after you bore it some,,,that margin is closer .
The cranks are almost identical,,,mostly different machining and balancing .
The rods are very close,,,,same floating pins,,can easily be changed if necessary .

When you clean and bore the block,,,,go ahead and upgrade pistons to 10.5 compression .
You can upgrade rods or keep same,,,,no difference in power produced .
You will need more cam,,but,,,which engine doesn’t ?
You will need to upgrade heads,,,,easily accomplished .
Aluminum,,,or a nice set of J heads,,,,,or,,,,maybe a really nice set of X heads .
You can use factory rockers or aluminum,,,or,,maybe a really nice set of factory iron rockers on banana groove shafts ,,and a solid lift cam ?

Then headers ,,or a nice set of factory 340 high performance manifolds .

If I don’t change my mind,,that’s the direction I’m going .

I have a 68 318 block and steel crank,,,excellent condition.
Aftermarket rods,,,domed pistons,,,solid cam .
68 X heads and adjustable rockers,,,and 68 manifolds .
I like mostly the machine work now ,,,,I finally found my X’s the other day .

I might still go 340 block yet,,,,but I’m not rushing,,,,and I still think the 318 is a fine engine .

We need to pull together as Mopar guys and help each other more than we do .
Myself included .

Had me fooled....dayam.....either that or you're an internet troll.
When someone shares an opinion other than yours that isn't a troll by definition. Either you agree or don't but you shouldn't call people names make judgements and accusations because you disagree...and gang up and get them ousted etc. actually when you taunt me into commenting agressive that makes you the troll now don't it?

I didn't gang up on you or get you ousted. You got yourself ousted. But, what you do fits the definition of an internet troll to the T! I would say to Google it but you would probably argue with what it says too....
