I have a 69 340 block and a set of 1975 360 heads. I want to cut the heads to lower the cc. Does anyone know how much to cut of the intake, if I deck them 50 or a 100ths
why are there two different sets of edelbrock heads 1 reg set for small blocks and one set for early high compression 340's. i would check piston to valve clearance before i started milling heads for a 340.
they were the same pistons flat top just different deck height giving you a different compression ratio like in 72 or 73 when they got de tuned they went from x heads to j heads where the only difference in the two was intake valve size 2.02One set is to clear the pop up 10.5:1 pistons of the early 340's, the chamber is opened up to clear. The other is for the later low compression piston 340's. The pistons do not protrude past the deck.

I have new pistons they say 9.5-10.7:1 depending on the cc of the heads. The mopar guys around here say the heads are no good and my cr will be around 8. I'm on a budget build right now cant buy new heads.
