Does a 340 take a special torque converter?? Because the crank pilot is shallower then a 318 ? I pulled a 318 and put in a 340 and the torque converter bottoms in the 340 crank pilot??
Not unless someone used a crankshaft from an early 273 with the smaller crank register. OR it's an early 273 and not a 340.Does a 340 take a special torque converter?? The '67s (and earlier) had the small crank register. "68 and up were large, so the convertor nose couldn't seat in the register. My first 340 build, had a bad crank. The boss at work had just put another engine in his father in laws 67 Plymouth, and the old 318 was sitting there. So I took the crank out and it was a steel crank. Had it checked, turned and balanced. I built the 340, got a used 727 converter from a friend and when I went to put it in the car, the converter was bottomed in the back of the crank and wouldn’t turn.
I’m trying to use the 999 trans and the torque converter fits but bottoms out in the 340 crank and does not reach the flex plate ?? The 318 is .720 deep and the 340 is .650 deep ?? Anybody ran into this ??Does a 340 take a special torque converter?? Because the crank pilot is shallower then a 318 ?
