40 deg total adv ???? Hmmm

I am running a mopar 528 mech purple stick---Car is running good-no knock but I checkrd my timing and total is 40 deg all in at 2500rpm ???? Should be 36 deg right???
Is 40 to much total my initial is 16

i ran 38 for a while no problem. only way to see if its to much would be at the track or on the dyno. since you have no ping or knock.

I run 38 also in my 410 sb,runs great.

I'm blind in one eye and deaf in the other and i am not sure what it sounds like

You should beable to hear any ping or knock....better under load.What type of fuel you running?I run 94 pump gas.

I apolagize i posted this thread in the wrong forum.
well" if it aint broke dont fix it" as they say. Put 1000 miles on her and some over 6K RPM ---- all is well

"Pinging" sounds like "steelie" marbles in your engine...it's a very distinctive metal knocking sound. Simply add 10* to what you have and take it for a ride....floor it and you'll hear pinging. Don't do it too long..... then reset your timing back.
