Ok back to having to use the 318 this year, the 360 is going to cost to much right now to rebuild.this 318 has had a rebuild.I look up the casting #sss 4104230 it says race painted orange and does not tell me what year it is.Is this a good 318 being it says race. Can anyone tell me more on this motor.I need some good luck. Thanks Don

Aaaaaaaaaaa

Snake, is the engine in the car? Scrape the grime and grease away where the driverside clyinder head meets the block, look on the block for numbers stamped in.

Since the engine was rebuilt, we know nothing about it. You wold have to measure how far down the hole the pistons are and it's overbore size.

Any (engine) 318 is a good 318 like anything else it just depends on what shape it's in. The only issue wold be the compresion ratio if all else is new and rebuilt.

rumblefish360 the motor is on a stand.i will see if i can get thoes numbers.I have been looking over the net and it sounds like 318 race engine is not the case still why do they say it is a race engine painted orange?

that casting number is used by the X block....but it needs to have a
X cast into the front of the motor just above the dip stick opening...otherwise it is a just a plain old 318

Race schmace?Get er together, get er in and get er done! You need to get this 318 in and drive!Snake you need to start enjoying your new wheels!
