Hi all, I'm pretty new to the MOPAR scene but not to the restoration game in general. I inherited 5 Darts this past year and have only been able to save 2 of them and one of them is a convertible. It says on the steering wheel bezel, "Golden Anniversary" or some variation but I really can't find any info about a convertible edition of this.

I'd just really like to know if these did exist and if there is a way to tell by the VIN or the tag in the engine bay?

I am still unsure what I am going to do with this car and any info I can glean from the tags would be great.

'64 was the 50th anniversary of the Dodge brand. I think all Dodges were considered Golden Anniversary editions that year & I think all the Darts had a horn button to indicate this. So it's not a special package just a cool '64 Dart convertible.

A friend of mine's mother had a 1964 Dodge Polara 500 with "Golden Anniversary 1914 - 1964" inside the center of the steering wheel. I remember seeing others at the wrecking yard back in the late 1970s on other Dodge models. It might have been part of an anniversary package.
I know that my reply doesn't answer your question but it helps to know that it is probable a package was available for the Dart convertible.

So far as I know the Golden Anniversary cars were painted and upholstered in a two tone gold scheme. I had one for a short time, rather than gold the main color it was sort of a beige / creme with gold accent. Some I've seen the main color was gold

Do you happen to know if blue was an option? It wouldn't

Thanks. That is what is in this. This one is dark blue outside and baby blue inside. I'm really unsure what to do with this car, I inherited a barn full of Darts. I started out with 5 and culled it down to 2. I'm still debating on whether or not to resto these two. I will NOT be sending them to car heaven, just trying to figure out my options. It only has a i6 so...uggh.

I don't know, I've had 4 64s and this is the first Golden Anniversary one I've come across...

My cousin had a 64 Dodge 880 and it was gold/tan colored and it was a Gold Anniversary car as I remember by the horn button.

My first ever new car was a 1964 Dodge Dart 170 push button slant 6.... White with Red interior and it had the Golden anniversary horn button.... And I still have the "horn button"....⚓
(Wish I still had the car... )

I have the push button slant 6 as well! It took me a while to figure out the Park thing but I got it. Haha. I feel like an idiot for calling it a "horn button" but until recently I've worked with mostly Datsuns and Ford so this is a bit different for me!

Come to think of it, my friend's mother's car was gold with a gold accented beige interior.

It was not an option, it was not a special package, it's not coded specially in the VIN, it wasn't only with special paint or certain interiors, it was nothing like that. Post № 2 in this thread gave the right answer: ALL 1964 Dodges were 50th "Golden" Anniversary cars. A '64 Dart without a "Golden Anniversary" horn button has had an other-year horn button swapped on.

As for it "only" having a Slant-6: that engine has huge potential for lots of fun. You'll hear the name "Clifford" come up, but be very careful before you decide to spend any money with Clifford. They have a long and ugly reputation for being a bunch of clowns; see for example here, here, here, here, and here. Much of what they sell is inaccurately described, and a lot of it is not even slightly cost-effective. The good news is that you don't need to go to Clifford to get hot rod parts for slant-6s; there are lots of other, better options. See for example Dutra Duals and header options discussed in this thread and this one, Erson custom cams, HEI ignition upgrade, Mike Jeffreys windage trays, Hurricane intakes, other exotic intakes. Hi-perf engine buildup here, high-perf parts and build info here.

Before you get carried away too far, though, just get it in top running condition. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread.
