'65 273 driver's side manifold heat shields

-
I'm just quoting the factory parts book, they show the same number 64-68 2465845 for the left with no web.

Alan

I only have a '65 parts book, and it shows the left as 2465845 with a note "w/Heat Shields"; Right is 2465842. no illustration shown for either. So, the photo of the NOS gaskets you posted in #8 matches the original shown in my post #9. I believe the gaskets shown in #8 are the original factory installed configuration for '65 which DOES have a left side web. The gasket/heat shield shown in #2, #6 and #22 do not have the web and are later cars. I think they dropped the web for '66 and newer, and it became the replacement for previous as well as later 273s. Another possibility is that both were used concurrently, but at different assembly plants.

I have a spare (not for sale) 2465845, same as on my car, I will get a picture of the part number to show you. The reference to the heat shield is just that, not a reference to the web between them.

Al,
Post #8, picture of gasket set, what year is this for? Are you saying it is not a '65?

I received a package today from a list member, (thank you Clementine)! In the box were two heat NOS heat shields, both p/n 2951285. I immediately checked the fit, pics below, and they seem to fit fine. I googled the part number and it came up with '70-'72 318 A body. They appear to be identical to the photos in post 8 & 9. So even though they are not "correct" for '65 they seem perfect for the job.

Nice!
Great photos and information.

Some earlier cars (unknown where the cutoff I know 67 didn't have the right side)

These are not available new/reproduction (left or right)

This picture shows the right side, essentially the same as the left less the large extensions.

Alan
The upper gasket is the right side and the lower gasket for the left side for a 273, 318, 340 and 360 from 1969 and on.

I disagree that the heat shield will fit 273, 318 , 340, and 360. The exhaust ports on the 340/360 are taller vertically than the 273/318. Just went through this with my 318.

The 340/360 on a 273/318 is open at the bottom of the port. Fits fine as far as the top and sides go, but open at the bottom.
The picture in post #38 shows that. No one that I know of reproduces this gasket.

Any Alternate to replacing? Have a rotted shield on a 69 Barracuda. Not sure I want to risk snapping a rusty manifold bolt to just replace this.

They do serve a purpose but a lot of small blocks don't run them. A good set of wires and wire looms will keep the boots away from the manifolds.

I always had good luck with Accel Extreme 9000 wires when I ran headers on my tool truck.
