65 barracuda steering coupler rebuild Questions

Or go this route like I did on my 65 Dart unlessView attachment 1716423144 your dead set on the Mopar one

The factory style coupling allows for fore and aft movement between the column and the gear box. Your setup does not. Does it matter? Don't know. Ehrenberg says it does, but he's not always right.

I’m not sure how different the 67 is to the 65 but my steering column came out pretty easy. I also did order that quick fix rubber boot for the coupler. I would go for that u joint style but I’m sure it’s more money than I’d want to spend. Perhaps in the future I’ll go for it!
In my picture post #17 did it for about $30 or so that was for a new bearing in bottom of column, u-joint and a couple steel bushings for added length for going from power to manual

65 or 67, pulling the steering column is at most a 15-20 minute job. See #5 (my 67 Barracuda's column). On my 67, three bolts on the firewall plate, 3 bolts on the column support under the dash, one electrical connection, one roll pin and - if you have a column shift automatic - one clip for the shift rod. Then the column just slides out.
I call that a less than 2 beer job

For what it's worth, I finally got around to putting the clamp (post #5) on my 67 Barracuda's coupler. With an assortment of screw drivers, pliers, vice grips, a hammer and no small amount of cussing. What a PITA. I'd say the cover sold by Bergman Auto that RRR recommends (post #11) would be a lot easier even for the couplers that have the roll pin which, as covered above, the OP's 65 doesn't have. Anyway, here's my 67's coupler:

My 67 was the same bs. I gave up and used hose clamp lol.

I'm all in on anything that eliminates the seal/bent-tab cover that I've struggled with for the better part of a day. There's not much info on the Bergman site as to how this goes on, i.e. how it works, and the photo of it is undescriptive. Does this also eliminate the need for that humongous spring clamp that goes into the roll pin holes? If so, BONUS!!

It's actually incorrect for mine. Mine is a 64 model. But it works fine. It fit "a little" loose, but I put a light coat of RTV around the coupler where the boot slides on, slid the boot on and put two black zip ties around the boot to hold it tight. So far it's not slipped a bit nor has it leaked. It's a good piece.
