Hi all.

I have a line on a NOS lower windshield lock strip.

2811 904 (for 67 hard top)

My 67 convertible calls for 2839 148

In the images it looks very much the same but I have not asked for dimensions.

They did offer up 1 dimension and that is the length, which is longer than the width of the space between the left and right convertible side windshield trims

QUESTION

Does anyone have first hand knowledge if the fast back lock strip (though maybe longer) has the same profiles?

I don't remember ever seeing a different profile on any of the '67 lockstrips.....just different lengths. Those things will shrink over time though.

Unless it's a smokin deal, get new from Precision. NOS will be brittle as heck and if not yellowed it soon will be. Like CudaMark said 67 profiles are all the same I believe, just the lengths are different.
Whenever I get around to swapping mine out the lockstrip and gasket will be for sale.

Agreed an the posable issues.

It is about 1/2 the cost of repo. I'm asking about the condition of the chrome.

It is NOS so it has not been in the sun so the plastic MIGHT be ok still.

UV is plastic's kroptonite.

Moisture is chrome's kroptonite.
And it seems to becoming from the east.

If you aren't concerned about originality, the later year stainless trim might be a better way to go. Its also readily available new or used. You will have to install the window clips so that may be a pain as the front windshield would have to come out if it is already installed. Convertible may be different as well.

IIRC, the convertible only used that strip on the bottom of the windshield.

Thanks, my dad was going to do that but never did. I decided to keep it stock.

The convertible kept the plastic lockstrip on the bottom through 1969, so there is no direct stainless replacement. I know one person who hacked up a hardtop stainless piece to make it fit, but remember, there are no clips to hold it in, and the rubber is a completely different profile. So it was probably a significant project.

As far as the original question, I'd be certain that the hardtop lower lockstrip would work fine. I would pull the side chrome pieces and see if it would fit without trimming — that would give it more extra length in case it shrinks (which it will). But it's likely you'd have to cut it down a little. No big deal.

Mine is shrunk at both ends, but still shiny. I have a bunch of the chrome corner pieces, including the straight center piece from a notchback rear window (I think). I was considering cutting the strip that's in there in half and shoving it towards each end, and using the straight piece to cover the gap in the middle. I have to measure it out first to make sure it would be long enough. Then there is the question of whether it is too brittle to be moved.

The convertible lower is shorter than the hardtop, simple as that and it means each have their own part number...

Got the nos lock strip today. Very supple, the chrome is in great shape, the plastic is a bit yellowed,

Now 2 questions.

  1. On the nos lock strip was the chrome imbedded in the plastic or applied to the surface. (The one on the car now, windshield was replaced once in the late 70s early 80s, had the chrome applied to the surface) this one it is imbedded like the aftermarket sold today
  2. Is there any advice for putting the lock strip in. If at all possible I don't want to remove the side pieces

Our replacement lockstrip has chrome embedded in it. It was VERY tough for us to install a section of lockstrip on the back window of our fastback. Use as much lube as you can get your hands on. You shouldnt have to remove side pieces.
