67 Dart Post Project

Sand blasted and painted the gas tank tonight. I also unpacked and started cleaning up all the original glass so I could apply the tint film. The glass doesn't look as good as I was hoping but it will do for now. I may try to locate a better driver side wing window though.

Well the floor hump is in so it's officially a 4 speed car! I feels good to finally be done with welding on this project. I've also installed the door and trunk seals. The gas tank is in now too. Slight problem with clearance between the gas tank and the rear end because I moved the rear back around 1.5" It's just barely touching so I might just reform the tank with a BFH, Lol.

Moved the Dart to it's much cleaner and nicer new home. It now has a Russian roommate.

Ummm... Well my boss is an ex Air Force pilot who is now a successful CEO. He has a thing for these Russian planes. They're called Yaks and he has 4 of them. The one in the pic is the nicest of the bunch. Do to his hobby he has 3 airplane hangers to store them and lucky for me there is some extra room right now. The main hanger is a car guys dream shop. He's a great guy and lets me use the place as if I was my own. You haven't lived until you have flown in a plane like this. Truly amazing...

Im diggin that picture of the 1/4 panel! A flip top cap, and Black "Cragar SS" rims... Hmmm We have similar taste apparently! :)

Piked up my flywheel from the machine shop and my Centerforce clutch and hardware came today also. The trans is all ready to be bolted to the engine as soon as the pilot bushing shows up. Maybe I'll get it all into the car this weekend. I plan on putting the car on the lift and lowering it onto the engine, trans, and K member assembly. We'll see how that goes.

Well... I was getting the engine ready to drop in and I got out the engine mounts. The seller said they were definitely for a 360 in a 67 Dart. Wrong!!! They look like conversion mounts to me. Most likely 340/360 in a /6 K member. I'm done taking a sellers word on things. I bought these ahead of time so I'd have them when I needed them and now here I sit.....

What k-member does your car have? Those do look like /6 to small block mounts. You might only need pass side bracket for v8 if your car was originally has v8 k.

Ian

I think they are schumacher early a mounts. Here's a pic. At least I should be able to sell them for a profit.

Your going to want a Solid motor mount on the Drivers side at a minimum. If one of those rubber mounts comes apart it will not be a good thing.

I was gonna use a torque strap on the engine. Do you think solid mounts are a better choice?

Torque straps are expensive unless you make them yourself plus they take up room. I usually run solid mounts but either will work.

Don't run a Solid on the Trans though.

Ok, that's what I'll do. Thanks Louis. Sounds like I may have located a set of 340/360 brackets and may have a buyer for the Early A mounts too.

Just curious. Did you use any kind of gasket material between the flip top gas cap, the adapter, and the body? If so.. What?

I used a piece of silicone rubber that was 1/8" thick. I just cut it out of a sheet with a scissors. I did this for 2 reasons. 1) to stop any chance of leaking there and 2) without the added thickness of the silicone the hinge on the gas cap would hit the quarter panel before the adaptor had bottomed out.

Thanks for the info... I am gonna get a roll of that black silicone gasket maker...I was thinking of going between the body and adapter and also between the adapter and the cap itself. Nowi had mine mocked up on the car before paint and the hinge didn't touch the quarter but it was CLOSE lol.

Got my motor mounts last night from highflyer so I can finally drop the 408 in the Dart this weekend.

Put the car on the lift today and unbolted the front suspension. Then I put some POR15 on the front wheel wells. Gonna put the engine and trans on the K member and lower the car back onto it. Need to figure out where i put my damn pilot bushing... On a different note, look what my boss brought home tonight. I guess when you have more toys than room you just need to trade up.....

Well the 408 was finally liberated from the engine stand today! The A833 and centerforce clutch bolted up great. I had to modify the passenger side engine bracket to get things lined up but it fits good now. It's gonna suck if I ever lose access to this shop. Not sure if I can go back to crawling around under cars.

Dang that made it easy. Nice and clean!!

Doing it like that you didn't even need to notch your K Frame or the oil pan it seems. If you ever need to take that engine out. It will need to come back out the bottom unless you can push it back far enough to clear the passenger front corner of the Milodon pan.
