I'm going remove the floor shifter from the 65 Barracuda. I'm thinking about installing a 68 A body console. I have the entire tunnel, and I'm thinking about cutting the top off preserving the stock placed brackets and downrod hole. The "strip" should be ! 5 " wide and 2 ft. long. (wider at the shifter downrod hole.

If anyone installed a later console, how did you do it?

Also: going with G6 seats that are 19" wide, the stock Ply's are 22".....so I should have enough room....... I hope.

Im not a welder, but that seems like a lot of work for 2 brackets and a 3 or 4 inch hole. Now, IIRC ,those early As do have a somewhat different shaped floorpan than the 2nd generations.Seems to me the tunnel area was different. However the rug that is glued to the console should take care of that.
-Having said that; Have you considered how different the styling on that console is compared to the styling of the pre-67 interiors. It wouldnt be for me.
-And would you be ditching the push-button set up, or was your car a manual trans?I always thought that typewriter set-up was kinda cool.Totally went with the times.
-Whatever you do, post up some pics.It will be cool.

65 Barracuda never had the push button shifter, and the 66 that had the full length console had more narrow seats. I don't think the 67 tunnel was much different or worth the transplant unless you measured differently.

The 65 doesn't have the floor shift hole or boss. the 67 up does. keeping the brackets on 1 piece will help keep them in alignment. car is a floor / cable shifter.

rather do a little work than put in a cable shifter B&M type. they too look out of place in early As

here is a valiant I did with an aftermarket shifter.

I have the tunnel in the car (65)....and the tunnel cut from the 67+ with the backets still attached. The 67 has the drop rod hole, just ahead of the crossmember.

The brackets and the hole all need to align for the console to fit right. that's why I figure keep them on 1 piece and graft it in.

anyone have a pict of an early A with later console?

here is a 66 Fish with console. Doesn't look too bad. i would imagine the 67+ consoles are the same.......yes?

66 first year for console...use those parts no need to change floor...they didnt have the same down rod hole or boot

but I already have a restored 68 console with a tunnel and brackets. Tried to sell it all for $150 but no takers! lucky me....sat on it a year and in it goes to this car! I'm glad alot of you guys are so cheap! ;)

I take it back, it looks good. I was also concerned about seatbelt fitment, but forgot the 1st gens didnt have seatbelts; at least not up here. I think it was 68 that belts became mandatory in Canada.I also forgot my 65 was a column shift. I guess Imagettin slow.My apologies.
-Yeah Ive got 3 or 4 of those consoles in the rafters. A 66B-body too. Been there for near 35 years. So if you got it, and the skills, and you like it,have at it. Staying tuned for pics.
