I picked up a 318 out of a 68 to put in my 72 Dart. Can I just change the water pump and timing chain cover and be OK? If I change the timing chain cover , how will it effect the ability to adjust the timing?

You will also have to change the '68 crank balancer to a '70 up internal balance style. Note that the balancers after '71 became a symmetrical bolt pattern for the crank pulley. You can install the '71 and older pulley on the '72-up balancer if you grind just a little on the off-set bolt hole. So change the balancer, timing cover and water pump to a '70-up style to suit your '72 radiator and everything will work just fine, David. **Be sure that the front driver side two lower bolt holes in the '68 block are tapped to run the power steering rear mounting brackets if you retain the '72 style ps pump**

Really dont understand the question. I'm guessing the lower hose is on the wrong side. You'll need a coresponding mark on the balancer.

David,
Thanks, that's exactly what I need to know. I am going with manual steering so I won't need to worry about tapping the holes but it' good information to know.
Now my only problem is finding a waterpump pulley for a non power steering motor.
Thanks again
Greg
