Is the non-shiny center area on these parts painted on? Or was the metal somehow prepared that way?

They are painted argent just like the hood insert I posted.

X2 it would have been nearly impossible to bright anodize finish only the upper and lower portions of that piece. Getting paint to adhere to the center area is/was easier.

I painted the center with argent and used 1/8 and 3/16 black tape on the sides

Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question - but what is argent? is it the color? Do you have to prep the alum special for argent?

Argent is a color, Argent silver. You can buy in spray paint cans. Proper prep will be required, obviously, I used etching primer on mine and it looks great. Good luck!

jegs has the real stuff, about 10.00 a can. anyone know how to straighten the painted area so it doesn`t have high and low spots?--bob
