Some peoples luck. Nice score Tony

That stuff sat on craigslist for a couple weeks before Tony got it. It was WAY too far for me to go otherwise it would have been mine... LOL

yes..the were in Fernely Nv...about 400 miles north of vegas...just east of reno...the guy wanted 1500 for about 4k worth of parts...I got them for 1350 as he knocked 150 bucks off for gas....I should asked for a lunch and dinner allowance...lol

well...UPS guy showed up twice tonight...dropped cam off in morning..then shims and seals in afternoon...said he could not find the little box in the morning stop...waited all afternoon for those shims and valve stem seals..

anyway...got the heads assembled today....love that pneumatic spring compressor...one of the best tools i ever purchased.

also was going to start dialing in the cam...got all the stuff out to do it...but tomorrow is another day..

Got the cam installed and degreed in...Everything clicked the first time...the Howards cam was nuts on....dont know what brand of timing chain it is.. i have a couple of double roller sets...nothing fancy ....

1st photo shows crank being set to TDC....cam is already bolted in....make sure you dont put break in lube on the number 1 intake lobe ...it screws up the measurements.....forgot...

2nd photo..you see the dots lined up...you can see the dot on the cam sprocket...crank sprocket is there...

at this point i check the cam centerline...

@ .050 i got 62 degrees and 147 degrees....209/2 = 104.5...was shooting for 104

double checked @ .100 got 44 degrees and 165 for 209 again....

photo 3 i checked the intake opening versus the cam card... card says 17 degrees...at .050...pointer in on 17...

photo 4 shows ....checked the intake closing at .050 and got 45 degrees..just like the cam card.....take the 17 + 45 + 180 = 242 duration at .050...as per cam card...

I had previously check the lift at cam...with in a couple thousand ...with cam lube...lol

it was nice hitting the number on the first try.....

Nice! that the racer discount? or some other deal goin on?

somehow back in 2005...after winning a race here in vegas I got paper work from jegs and summit for a racer's discount...

10% is usually the discount sometime more..depends on the manufacturer

Always nice when they go in like they are supposed too.

Pretty much got the engine assembled....Still need to adjust hydraulic lifters...water pump needs a couple of bolts...and intake is just sitting on the engine...needs to be clean a little better...

installed BHJ harmonic balancer with proper tool..of course...LOL...

checked to make sure balancer lines up with no 1 TDC..

thin mopar head gasket...used to be red..then they were blueish and now red again..

pictures with crane 1.5 roller roller on engine....and intake with carb sitting on engine...

engine will probably sit like this until it is time to get installed then rockers will get adjusted and intake installed...

Should have 904 done next week...

well..under the plastic and sheet in the back ground are two engines...one complete and one short block.

under the plastic is the 408 that had main bearing problems and never really made a good run down the track...it is all repair....block hone...crank turn and rods resized..new cam..rod..main beaing..new oil pump...

the other under the sheet..and plastic too...is a 360 .020 with stock rods and kb107 piston ..was suppose to be the engine in my demon before the current engine which is was suppose to be a spare for the dart or demon...it is a complete short block with an Engle 253/253 solid cam with 575 lift...oil pan and water pump on engine..

today was finish the 904 day....I had problems last week with the pumps, put new bushing in..new pump gears and new seal...i put a 904 converter on the bench and slid the pump down on to the converter snout..with the bolts loose in the pump...once i tighten the bolts up...the pump would not come off the snout...

two years ago..went i put the trans in my demon..had a problem getting the pump to go on the snout...I swapped out pumps to get it to work...

anyway..I tried the same thing with another pump...and once it was tighten..it would not come off the snout...

I found a pump alignment tool for a 904 on ebay....bought it and last night it arrived...I use the tool today ...tightening the bolts with the alignment tool on the pump...now both pumps slide on and off with ease.....

apparently these two pumps had alignment issues...first time I ran into that...

got it all back together...5.0 lever...TA cheetah valve body...MP deep steel pan...rapped it in plastic and it is back in the corner waiting....

sorry forgot camera...so no show n tell tonight...

Now i got to get the brakes and wheels back on a 71 Dart...so I can move that Duster into that bay...

Congrats Tony. Your making quick work of that build. Me and auto. transmissions........:violent1:. Wish i had your skills, i'm just a R&R guy......lol.

nice work tony. how do you like the bhj damper? they are not far from me.by the way my thin mopar head gaskets were white like mr gasket gaskets. hoarder of sbm is right! damn what an inventory!:prayer:

yes..the head gasket is/was the same as the mr gasket 1121...i was using both but it seems mr gasket quit making them...but make a 1121G now...thin with graphite coating.
i had another set of the mp thin ones and opened up the box they were the whiteish or blueish ones too.....the BHJ is a very nice damper...it came with this short block....it is not a SFI one but this engine will not need one ..

getting close to show time to start working on that Duster...spend the day cleaning and rearranging the garage/shop, there is a storage shed on the property and a small room attached to it also...decided to move alot of parts (stuff) into them to clear out and make room for the Duster in the second bay.

I bought this place almost a year ago..but spend 6 1/2 months working out of town..still got alot of things to do...big air compressor is not hooked up yet..plus need to finish wiring lights on ceiling...a work in progress as they say...took these after cleaning up..

my 2 yr old grandson help..but he was gone after chicken nuggets went i took the pictures...
