Hi all,

I saw a post on FB asking if a 73 up A body lower control arm would will work on a 68 A body.

Except for sway bar mounts I thought they were the same.

They use the same bushing.

But in the parts books the number changes in 73.

Thoughts

I have a few pair from various years. I thought they were all the same too.

I can compare tomorrow if I remember !!!!!!!!!!!!!

@hemi71x should be able to help out !

All "A" body lower control arms are all the same from 1962 to 1976.
Only thing you can consider to be different is where the sway bar mount tab is welded onto the LCA.
1965-72 in one location, 1973-76 in another location.
I don't know about a part number change for a LCA in a parts book.
Never had any reason to look.

Thanks Jim, now I don't have to compare !!

They will interchange but non sway bar tab LCA's are different in appearance. There is bracing stamped into the early LCA's that the later LCA;s don't have. Appearance they look different but do interchange with no issue. Bushings are the same.

It is correct that the tabs are different in shape and location pre to post 73?
yes.

64~72 is outer and low on the arm, 73+ is middle and upper on the arm

early bar links mount from the top down, later from the bottom up.

Well then, my turn with a picture.
65-72 A body LCA with sway bar mount tab location.

LCA's 65-72 A Body 001 (Small).JPG

One. Early with the outboard sway bar tab.
two. Early without the tab
three. Late without the tab
four. later with inboard sway bar tab

The difference between the two without sway bar tabs is one has a smooth face the other is ribbed. The control arms inter change at the K-member and the ball joint . From what I remember it is only different where the inboard tab would be fastened if it had one.

I probably have all 4 here . If I sell any and dig them up I'll get a picture

There are actually 4 different LCA's. 8 if you count left and right
There are actually even more than that if you count appearance differences. For instance, the '65-6 LCA's with sway bar have a slightly different bracket....one with an extra washer looking flange for the sway bar bushing. There are also different bumper plates through the years. Some are narrow and some are wide. None of the differences will keep them for interchanging however.

I was talking 67-76. That is what I have. I believe I did state they will all interchange. But the question was did they change in 73 ? For the non stabilizer bar type and the stabilizer bar type? Yes they did. If you buy them in pairs they should match. If not you'll have an odd ball on one side that looks different

When I bought my QA1 sway bar, the instruction manual pretty much stated: "Use 73-76 Lower control arms with sway bar tabs if using stock style LCA."

The lower control arms went through many number changes in the '62-72 years. The older factory manuals don't even list a difference between the sway bar type and non-sway bar type. Maybe all the replacements had the sway bar bracket? The '63 FSM lists them as 2071468-9. This became 2071642-3 up to 1966. The 67-71 manuals show it being 2535364-5 (also the replacement for the earlier ones), and I see a later listing of 3402930-1 as being a replacement number for all of them.

Found these pictures in my files from my rebuilding these things from the past 25 or more years.

Last picture number 4 is correct.
I mistakenly posted, a picture, then quickly edited it, of a LCA that i personally did a minor modification too, in my years of rebuilding these darn things.
No #5. Just these. Just to keep the record straight.
