I have recently biught a 71 dart, the guy who sold it was shady. I don't know what transmission for sure that i have. Where are markings that tell me this? Also was told that it was a 318, want to make sure there also. Someone told me that the engine displacement is located under the head on the drivers side, is it the firewall side? Thanks!

Drivers side ftont of the engine should be stamped. The cast number, drivers side usually has displacement.

Trans, look at the pan, pass side.
Bump out = 727
Flat = 904

perfect! is the engine stamp on the side of the block or the back between the firewall?

drive side front where head and block come together...like where the power steering pump would be..

there is a circle in the center of the trans pan about 9 inches in diameter that is popped out about 1/2 inch, is this a 727?

i have found that i have a 904 rather than a 727. Is this good or bad?

727's are considered heavier duty then 904s, but 904's can be built plenty. strong.

As long as it shifts well I wouldn't worry about that the car has a 904 in it.
